Been there. My prostate is why I drink a lot more Scotch and a lot less beer-if you can't pee beer is NOT your friend.

We had a new brewpub open up in our town, not far from our house. The beer was excellent, the food was great, the noise was horrible. We only went a few times. The brewer was a friend, we complained to him and he was very understanding, but the owner couldn't afford to put the noise dampening ceiling tiles it needed.

You sound like the perfect person to ask this question: Why are manholes always placed in the roadway right where you car wheels will track?:grin::rolling_eyes: (You asked for for that question by posting here.)

To be honest it comes down to money most of the time. Especially in older and growing cities, the sewer and utilities were in the location they were well before the road was there in the current configuration (or for use with modern transportation vehicles). When it comes to utility relocation, if it isn't in the way of construction or safe operation of the facility, and we can live with a manhole for utility maintenance, it stays. Because relocating lines is very expensive and you and me (as either the taxpayer or the utility ratepayer) is stuck paying the bill.

I'm a cardiac monitor technician at a hospital on night shift.

I basically watch patient's heart rhythms and read EKGs to report to the nurses.

It's totally not what I ever saw myself doing in life, but I rather enjoy it to be honest. I work 3 12 hour night shifts and get the rest of the week to myself. It pays the bills and lets me get my beers.

I spoke to one of our's at my Hospital, she finds it boring after 8 years, but says it beats all the drama of being on the floor.

Whew so right now it's pretty stressful just because we're right in the middle of getting hit hard with COVID and have to deal with all of the nurses and shitshow of moving patients around and stuff like that.

We had Telemetry crash because the powers that be decided more stand-by power tests are what we need to do now with a overflowed COVID ward.

    Papa,
As a operator for water/wastewater, I can. Tell you in our town I always advocate to put new lines off the road just so we will have less blown pipes due to freeze up.
@cyclonece09 is right on when it comes to relocating lines and money spent.

Again, as a operator , clanging manhole covers, busted water valve covers and heaved storm drain cover complaints are ongoing and we replace what is needed, but nobody wants a blown water main in winter much less sewage running down a street. I guess the powers where one lives controls the money.

I work for a small German company. We build custom automation systems.
I am a machinist by trade. Started an engineering degree but never finished, as work in the shop was more fun and took most of my time. Eventually managed our machine shop for most of my career. Had always managed the outsourcing of the work we could not do in house as well. As of last year, I have fully transitioned into purchasing.

The advent of the theme school has had an ill effect on so many areas of the humanities and social sciences too. They are just so much sexier as places for private donors to donate their money, and are proliferating as a result.

I call these schools centres of superficial specialization!

I used to work for a consulting company that did inspection, failure analysis and related engineering support for piping and pipeline systems. I remember going to a facility where a major swimwear/surfwear manufacturer had fire water sprinkler piping leak (from corrosion). My coworker was trying to make pleasantries with the manager there and commented "So the swim suits got wet and that's a problem?" The manager was not amused....at all.

Earlier I said that I’m retired, but what that means is that I just went from amateur to pro in drinking beer. No rules, but my rules, I’m sure my Doc wouldn’t approve me turning pro.
