I love a good Belgian during the holidays and would like to drink more local ones. What are your guy's favorite Colorado Belgians?

In Denver, it seems like Bruz and De Steeg are the two most solid producer of Belgian styles. But maybe there are some breweries I've missed? Just checked out Trve's site and it looks like they just put out a dubbel. Don't think I've ever tried this style from them.

What Belgians are you guys sipping on this winter?

Bruz has me covered for locals but I still think the Belgians are untouchable.

Belgian beers are the best beers. Excited to be making a few clean ones again, as they are very special to me. Been meaning to check out Bruz for a while now...

Funkwerks is the one that comes to my mind immediately (at least for saisons), I will admit I haven't been drinking belgians recently, definitely have to correct that.

Fu Fighter from Good River is a pretty top notch Belgian golden strong ale.

    Bruz does a good job.

I haven't been up there recently, but 12 Degree in Louisville is a nice little spot that focuses on Belgian beers And does a good job.

And say what you will, but I do still love New Belgium Trippel and it's very widely available.

Does Bruz sell cans or bottles at liquor stores? Don’t believe I’ve ever seen their beers on shelf, but with the amount of new beers that flood the market monthly, I could have easily missed them.

TRVEBrewer, will your Belgians make it into local shops?

It seems like a small canning operation for Bruz and I don't think their cans make it too far, but I have seen them at Argonaut.

You can find Bruz around Denver but it's kinda sporadic. Total Wines usually has some and the better local craft places have some from time to time too.

Funkwerks don’t play... speshy their tap only offerings. Tropic King is an amazing beer.

I will second the New Belge recommendation.. the regular triple is great as is the honey orange triple.

But, as @SFACRKnight mentioned, no one fucks with the actual Belgians... not sure if he put it quite as eloquently, but it is definitely the truth.

Them cats have been perfecting their skills for centuries. How are these new money Americans gonna compete? Bruz grand cru is money but still lacks the complexity of a saint b quad or westy12. Why? Native microflora. Terroir. Possibly maltsters. I am convinced its troubadour malts that make TRVE stand out from the crowd especially in styles where the hops are ubiquitous. Malts matter more than people give them credit for. Throw in yeast that have been continuously propagated for centuries and you've got some Juneau say kwah. :stuck_out_tongue:

It's tough to find CO-made Belgian-style beers on store shelves. Well, at least clean ones like dubbels, tripels, SDA's, and such. NB's Tripel is the only one you're likely to see at most stores. IMO, our best two were NB's Abbey and Elevation's Third Base and neither is being made anymore. I can't recall seeing Bruz, Baere, or 12 Degrees at the stores I frequent. I'll definitely keep my eyes peeled for TRVE's. Outer Range has made some good ones but I dunno if they've canned them lately.

While not CO, but I still think Cuvee Van De Keizer blue, De Struise Pannepot, and Chimay Red + Blue are pretty much unbeatable anyway. They're common enough where even small stores will have at least the Chimay.
