I think that is funny. They could have provided everyone a swimsuit and had a pool party.

Lie of course. I was in the emergency room at the local hospital last week for a kidney stone and they asked that question. Just could not admit that I am a lover of beer . . .

I agree with you, I rarely drink more than two beers a night, more likely only one. But beer is healthy for you, there’s studies done in Men’s Journal that shows that moderate consumption of alcohol improves Hdl to Ldl ratios. For what’s it’s worth they’re not suggestion being a lush is good for you. But I think everyone fudges with their doctors a bit from time to time, they expect it I believe.

The ones I know always assume double the units of what you tell them you consume...as a baseline.

I lied to my doc every visit (those few times I was so hurt or sick I went to see him)- right up until truth time with my health crisis 15 months ago. It was always 3-5 beers a week (not a day like was often true). I wish always I'd followed Dr.'s advice that moderate amounts of beer drinking is healthy.

The article in Men’s Journal mentioned moderate at 24 beers a week. The highest risk groups were tee totaler and very heavy drinkers. So figure three normal been a night was fine according to the studies, assuming no underlying conditions.

My current doc advised one beer a day to get health benefits. She told me drinking three or more beers every day is unhealthy. She advised me I am okay to have an occasional beer, and that it might be good for me if I can keep it at that level. I am at the one beer every few weeks level now..

I am not sure that there is enough distinction being made between gaining health benefits from drinking small amounts of beer, and not having negative effects from drinking excessively. I find those numbers you quote extremely suspect. It also is likely that all of these kinds of statistics and recommendations are connected to a science that isn't well enough developed for them to be useful.

Well it does depend of anything preexisting. The studies were on healthy males, which probably isn’t me at 65, I take BP meds my A1C are high enough, but alcohol helps reduce Sugars, it might more be targeting the 22-30 age group. It’s been awhile though, but you pay your Doc and he knows you, I’d follow his directions to the letter.

Well, truth is, if I'd known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself. Eubie Blake, Mickey Mantle, and Adolph Zokor were all fond of this proclamation. And they were cool guys, mostly...I've had a few doctors that used to give me the bullshit spray. I still like them best.

When I got out of the service I would still run 3-4 miles a day knowing what I know now. Being 23 and rebellious is hazardous to ones health. I never gave a thought past the next day, next week.

I'm afraid that that thinking, once it gets in you, never quite goes away or resolves itself completely.

I think your right, we’re wired a certain way, and we always revert back to our zone. For better or worse. .
