My first taste of this. I pulled it out of the fridge to temper it for 20 minutes and as you can see the pour got away from me.

Is the bitterness the hops or the coffee? Oh, wait, I know .........the answer is yes!

    Tonight's Beer Tasting Lineup:

    1) Stella Artois, a delicious and smooth drinking Euro lager with smooth European malts. A classic and a great lager.
    2) Molson Canadian Lager, another balanced a well-drinking lager that is complex, yet balanced.
    3) Stone Tiki Escape IPA, a fantastic and fruity IPA with Mosaic and Sabro hops to give it a nice tropical green and stone fruit flavors.
    4) New Belgium's Higher Plane IPA: An imperial IPA, but this one fell short and oxidized for me.
    5) Sam Adams Oktoberfest 2020: I know it's past the season, but had to compare to the Winter Lager. Surprisingly stronger aromas and flavors of caramel and cherry. More complex and flavorful.
    6) Sam Adams Winter Lager 2020: A mild but tamed drinking toasted bock. Nice and tame toasted flavors. In many ways it seems more like a Marzen than their Oktoberfest.

    Favorites:
Stone Tiki Escape IPA, it has great, strong green tropical and stone fruit flavors. A restrained amount of bitterness for Stone. A great and flavorful IPA
Sam Adams Oktoberfest: Wow this one surprised me. It had so much more aroma, flavor, and complexity than their Winter Lager. Glad I did a side-by-side comparison. Even though it may be more malty than your average Festbier or even Marzen, I would pick the Oktoberfest again. It makes their Winter Lager look timid, and it's really a great beer.

Have you tried the Sam Adams Oktoberfest or Sam Adams Winter Lager this year? What did you think?

I'm at my favorite tap room in Greenville NC drinking a Founders Big Luscious Raspberry Stout.
At first the raspberry is overpowering!
Once the beer warms the chocolate starts to come out.
    A very nice desert beer.
    Cheers!

[IMG] Canned Heat SUV. Poured into a 16 oz Nordic pint glass not sure when it was canned. Pours a hazy yellow with a finger plus sticky white head that leaves nice thick streaks of lace with excellent retention. 4.5

Aroma passionfruit, pear, peach, mandarin, apricot, and grapefruit rind. 4

Taste follows passionfruit, peach, mandarin, pear, apricot, and grapefruit. 4

Mouthfeel is medium, fairly soft carbonation, not dry or sticky, and 7.9% ABV it goes down rather easy. 4.25

Overall this is a little odd, but still overall a nice NEDIPA. I would recommend giving it a go. 4

If you like chocolate and char in your stouts (guilty as charged, your honor), you’ll dig this impressive stout straight outta North Carolina. Delicious stuff, IMHO.
