Dale, things have slowed down and everything is different. I have rekindled a few 50+ year old friendships. I read constantly and really recommend The Sun, a very old publication from Durham. Pick up this periodical and all of you will love it for very many reasons.

Yep, I am similar to you. I always point out my standard functions and test are good, so clearly I am a perfict specimen of a human, hahahahaha
He also reminds me as I get older, things will change. I just leave out the bad old days and that I have already cut way back. Young docs , PAs etc are great and inthusiastic about living into ones 90s.

For sure - a US Standard drink (for beer) is a 12 oz pour of a 5% beer.

    Check this out: https://www.rethinkingdrinking.niaaa.nih.gov/tools/calculators/drink-size-calculator.aspx
Pop in the ABV and ounces and it'll do the math to tell you how many Standard Drinks you're consuming. So, you're 9% tall boy of DIPA is 2.4 Standard Drinks (forget about the BA imperial stouts). I 'moderate consumption' is defined as 1/day US Standard Drink for women and 2/day for men.

I always knew 1 DIPA technically counted as 'more than one drink' but it's really eye opening to see the actual numbers.

Most things always mention 5% abv beer or 1 shot of 80 proof spirits as about equal as a measuring stick. But my blood chemistries are all good except my A1c are in the 6.7 range, with my knees and back getting exercise is difficult.

Love the Mick. One day Stengel gave him the day off, so the night before he went out and got pretty well soused. As luck would have it he was needed as a late inning pinch hitter. He ended up hitting a home run, seeing multiple balls and badly hungover, when he got back into the dugout he commented about the fans not knowing how tough that really was. Great ball player playing in the days of big ball parks.

So, if you aren't "fudging" to them, they still double your answer?

I found within the VA it pays to under report. When you tell the truth, they want to incheck you for substance abuse when you go to an appointment for Neuropathy and fail to look at the whole record and maybe those 23 x-rays taken at the exit physical meant something???

I am a naval officer. I first joined BA while stationed in Hawaii - that's where my avatar photo was taken. Been privileged to live all over the country and travel all over the world. I have the used the observations and reviews here on BA to guide my visits to local breweries and try some of the best beers in the world.

    Great topic!

Exactly...IMO, I would be a fool to not tell the doc the truth. I want recommendations and advice based on real data, not based on made-up lifestyles. I can always choose to ignore the advice but I want to know the correct advice. I'm having double hip replacement in a month from now (if the schedules are not botched by co-vid) and I am supposed to have zero alcohol for 7 days before that and no pain meds for 2 weeks before alcohol. I have no plans to fudge that guidance or tell the doc anything different, even though that "change" in lifestyle will suck badly.

If that's going to happen at the same surgery, you're a brave man. Good luck.
