It's currently on sale ($2 off) at the brewery right now.

I sure hope not. That held up so well on shelves and could really scratch the itch for an actually bitter, flavorful, and aromatic beer.

Not that I'll be in Massachusetts anytime soon to cry over it... still I hope they still distribute that beer.

This is pretty delicious. Nice notes of brown bread, pumpernickel...

Stumbled upon Lagerness Monster a couple weeks back, but got around to drinking it over the course of the last two days (pro tip: It's 14.1% -- which I did not know -- and I split half of it with my wife, capped it, and split the second half the next day).

Those of you on here who know my drinking habits know that I don't often go this big, so it was a little bit of a palate punch. Strong, but not overwhelming bourbon presence. Big, chewy mouthfeel. I like this beer. Could I do all 16.9 ounces? No, and I wouldn't want to. Would I split this four ways and enjoy it with friends? Absolutely.

I got Modern Hell AND Kiwi Rising both for $10 a 4-pack! So...I got 2 of each. Stoked. Add in a 4 of fresh Benediktiner Hell for $4.50....yeah, not bad.

The move away from the 6pks sucks.

In a world of stupidly expensive 4pks of uninteresting NEIPAs taking up all the shelf space, it’s been lovely to be able to walk into much any hole in the wall liquor store and be able to walk out with a nice $10-ish 6 pack of quality lager. Even the wee handle on the side of the 6pk is wonderful!

4pks will really affect my purchasing. And will we really be seeing $6 4pks or is the price point gonna move north?

The move to four packs stinks. This is a huge distinguishing factor for me in choosing beers and a big reason why I often opt for JA products over alternatives. One local brewery near me makes a great helles, but it's $12-13 a four pack. Why would I ever buy that when House Lager is $10 for a six pack? If House Lager moves to $10/4pack, it's a much closer call. And it puts JA in more direct competition with Schilling and other lager brewers.

On the other hand, the reason I opened this thread was to say that Kiwi Rising is just incredible. Amazing hop flavor in a package that doesn't make me think I'm drinking a smoothie? Oh yes. (I'm fine with four packs for these higher ABV beers).

I hope they made a new batch, the only two reviews (on this site) are from back in March.
Can you tell me what the date is on your can?

I have only tried one other Euro Dark Lager, Modernism from Schilling. I must have more, it's an excellent rare style. Cheers.

Yeah it’s a new batch. They announced it on IG recently.
I feel like the dark lager is having a bit of a renaissance lately. Modernism was fantastic, as is everything that brewery makes. Threes and Schiiling just released a oak-aged black lager that’s delicious. Threes also recently re-released Volition in cans. Plus, Schilling’s last dark lager, the Rustic Dunkel, I loved. Had a roasty, woodsy taste. Right up my alley.

Agree on the 4pks but it really just means I'll be buying 15pks of House Lager.

First time buying Kiwi Rising in a couple years. It's great.

Yep new batch canned last week, 12/15. I reccomend this one of you're close enough to the brewery.

I do need to add some more Notch to my diet. Thanks for the heads up.

Just under an hours drive, maybe next week. Thanks.

Specifically these are Czech Dark Lagers. As mentioned above, Černé Pivo (Czech for "black beer") and Tmavý (Czech for "dark") by Notch are both out, and while both are Czech Dark Lagers, they offer slightly different flavor profiles.

But if you like dark lagers in general, there's a litany of local Munich Dunkels you could probably buy right now (well maybe not a litany, but a handful).

Schilling's Modernism is a "darkened version" of their Czech Pilsner, Alexandr 10°, in my opinion. I have nothing to back that up with other than my own perception.

Both Beers are world class and I'll take all the Euro Dark Lager I can find, Czech influenced or not. I would like to see more Schwarzbier, Dunkels and Vienna Lagers.
    Cheers.

This would be spot on. Modernism is their Czech Dark Lager, which is the version of a Czech Pale Lager (which is what their Alexander is) that uses darker malts.
