I'm starting off Christmas every with a Kalamazoo Stout from Bell's. I't's chocolatey with some coffee in the background. I'm not picking up the licorice they mention on the bottle. It's got enough hope presence to balance out the bitter chocolate. This is a damn fine beer. Nice work, Bell's.

Merry Christmas Eve, BA's. Starting my day off with a unique stout from Boise Brewing. They're not the best craft brewery in town, but this is a worthy production. Black Cliffs, named after a dramatic canyon east of town, where people come from several states away to climb the cliffs. It's a hop-forward stout, bordering on imperial stout and definitely less sweet than most. It is the first time that I have used the term 'tobacco' to describe a flavor note.

Stay safe, and drink well. Prost

Cheers everyone, Merry Christmas Eve! I'm getting the day started with a fresh can of Vanilla PM Dawn imperial stout with cold brewed coffee. Not sure what they did with this batch, the vanilla is turned up, either more vanilla, a richer vanilla, or maybe a different process, either way it tastes like nougat and marshmallows floating in cold brew coffee with a melange of high end dark chocolates mixed in. Really nice and rich, creamy vanilla, chocolatey stout and intense coffee notes, just what I was in the mood for this afternoon.

Just did a quick check and there’s maybe one thread from back in March we could try to repurpose. Anyhow, next time I get to one, I may start the thread with an explanation of what a post should offer readers (very minimal). If no one beats me to it, that is.

Anyhow, I hear there’s a co-opted pagan holiday afoot. So I’m onto an IPA from a brewery with a CULT-like following in NoVa. I could’ve side-by-sided with another from Adroit Theory, but I didn’t:

Separately and alone, though, this still ranks more enjoyable of the two. Evangelion XVI or something (they don’t “tinker with recipes,” they “produce a new beer”).

Moving on from one stout to another (it is December, after all). I'm having a Black Chocolate Stout from the Brooklyn Brewery. It had a giant brown head that faded slowly and left very nice lacing. That's a little unexpected for a double digit ABV beer. Plenty of bitter chocolate in the nose and palate. A hint of vanilla in the background. I had this one back in March, but forgot that I had it. I rated it at 4.18 which is spot on its 4.17 rating from BA. I'd rate it the same today, a really good beer.
