    @Sabzi & @FBarber

Bumping this up to announce a majority of Chicago Breweries with taprooms have reopened for on premise service. Many if not most Suburban Breweries and most bars with food licences have also reopened.

That said, call or click their link above first, as their hours may have changed and several have eliminated select weekdays from their schedule since your last visit. A few are only open for outdoor service at the present time

14 Taprooms/Breweries remain closed for on premise service as of Saint Patrick's Day (blasphemy):
    • Adams Street Brewery
    • Ballast Point
    • Birreria
    • Dovetail (Patio will reopen soon)
    • Half Acre Lincoln Ave (Balmoral Ave. Beer Garden is open for outdoor service)
    • Hopewell
    • Lagunitas (Announced previously they are likely closed the entire calendar year)
    • Local Option
    • Maplewood
    • Marz Community Brewing
    • Middlebrow
    • Motor Row (Not sure, cannot access their social media without a sign-in)
    • Orkenoy
    • Revolution (Milwaukee Ave Brewpub - Announced likely reopening in April - Brewery open now but Friday-Sunday only at this point).

I’m pretty sure Maplewood is open. They had their outdoor pods open during the winter and their indoor lounge opened recently as well.

Getting this thread going again to get some info for a Chicago visit September 23-26. Looking for patio/outside seating and the following places appear to have outdoor options: Dovetail, GI Fulton, Maplewood, Half Acre Balmoral, Off Color. Is it hard to get an outside table at these places? Looks like only Half Acre Balmoral offers reservations? There is no outdoor seating at either Revolution location?

Also looking for recommendations for other good spots in that general area that have outdoor seating (will have a car). Appreciate any useful details, recommendations, and helpful nuggets of information.

For Revolution, you are correct but there is a slight twist- the brewpub has bar seats inside that open up to the outside. Could be acceptable. Additionally, the taproom is set in a warehouse with about 20 feet in between tables. My wife, normally skittish about thing like this, was fine with the accommodations. Plus, if you go in the early afternoon, you might be one of the only parties in there.

Une Annee/Hubbards Cave is within driving distance with an outdoor location. Cruz Blanca had a small outdoor area. If you make it out to Phase Three, they also have an outdoor area with table service.

I like @monstershu ‘s solid suggestions. Spiteful, Alarmist (both patios) and Haymarket (sidewalk seating) also have outdoor options.

HopLeaf (Craft Bar/Restaurant) and Beer in the Wall (bottle shop, draft and can/bottle on site consumption) also have outdoor seating.

Logistically, proximity, and for beer quality, would recommend the following by area (* dining recommended):

    Far North:
Spiteful, Half Acre, Dovetail and Hopleaf *.

    Northwest Side / Adjacent Suburbs:
Une Annee *, Alarmist, Beer on the Wall (Park Ridge) (SuperDawg drive in * - dining only)

    West Loop:
Goose Island Fulton, Haymarket *, Cruz Blanca.

Lincoln Park: Off Color and Goose Island Clybourn* (also has outdoor seating).

Thanks @monstershu and @ChicagoJ for the recommendations, very helpful. Kinda figured it would happen, but I now have more places that I need to visit than I'll have time for!

I don't want to start an argument, but I would eat at Cruz Blanca over Haymarket, and it's not close. Better beer at CB, too. IMO, they are underrated.

Metropolitan has a nice deck area that overlooks the river and has views of the city. It's especially pretty at night if the moon is reflecting on the river. They've always been quite strict about enforcing social distancing and masking, and I believe they now require proof of vaccination to enter.

I'm sorry, but I just have to s****** at a statement like this. As a longtime Chicago-area resident, and frequent visitor to the city I love above most others, nice overlook and that river just don't seem to go together.

Admittedly, I haven't been to Metro, so maybe they lucked out, but the north branch never seemed scenic to me.

My question about the deck is...does it smell godawful out there?

Because I cross the North Branch on my bike almost every day, and it fucking STINKS.

As someone that knows what it used to look like, the city has actually done a lot of work on that stretch. There’s a nice running path and all now, it’s much more scenic. I can’t vouch for anywhere north or south of that direct strip that Metropolitan sits on, but it’s quite nice right there.

I haven’t been to Metro this summer, but I’ve never noticed it in the past.

I'll take your word for it, but some of the pictures I've seen aren't terribly convincing.

Someday I'll find out for myself instead of speculating.

I mean, it’s not like the River Walk downtown or anything, but it’s definitely an improvement. And should continue to improve over time.
