Just figured I'd mention, the PB BA Void as of yesterday was drinking quite well, solid PB and that not-quite-vanilla bean effect of marshmallow I don't mind. It's still not as barrel heavy as I'd like though. Maybe in the new year that would be the one missing piece of the puzzle for TH, a solid barrel forward brew or two. I didn't have the pastry stout but my guess is it would not be categorized as barrel forward. Anyone in disagreement feel free to shoot me down.

They release barrel forward beers, but they are sold in green bottles. Ouriserva is one example. It was one of my favorite beers of 2020.

It sounds like that’s not what you are looking for. I agree with you that their BA stout blends, such as Black is Beautiful, have lacked prominent barrel character.

Anyone try mammon? The collab with anchorage?

Thought it was pretty tasty, but honestly I like most beers with Citra.

Also anyone have anymore details on the barleywine collab they hinted on Instagram?

Oh, I really enjoyed Ouriserva, but I guess I label that under the banner of farmhouse/saison. Yeah, I am speaking more to a porter or stout or barleywine with a barrel forward character closer to a BCBS.

Just found out these guys ship to VA. Strongly considering an order. I do wish you could ship a case of 6 4-packs but can only do increments of 4 4-packs. I guess I could go for 8, but 6 would be the sweet spot for me. Gonna wait until hop hands comes back up on the Dudley direct site. I see quite a few beers available for brewery pickup they are not available to ship, so I’ll keep my eye on what shows up on the shipping side.

I believe that everything they release gets shipped. It sells out quicker than pickup, though, so don't hesitate if you see something, especially if it's one of the DDH IPAs.

AFAIAK, I haven’t seen a straight-up BA stout from Tired Hands. All of the ones I’ve seen have been blended. I’m sure there have been some in the past that I haven’t seen. I agree with you that the barrel character is extremely nuanced in these blended beers. It’s barely noticeable in the Fluffernutter Void, IOUNNO and from what I’ve heard it’s the same in IOUNNO 2.

They don’t disclose at what proportion the BA blend is, so I would guess it was something like a 1:4 ratio of the barrel-aged beer to the base beer in question. I’m sure it adds some character to the overall flavor profile but I’ve noticed that a lot of BBA stout fans come away disappointed with the blended stouts. Personally I’ve enjoyed all of them for what they are (except IOUNNO 2 which I’ll try in February) but I can see why some would come away feeling disappointed. I think they should understand that, when it’s a advertised as “BA blend”, you’re probably not gonna get a ton of barrel character from a blend — especially if they’re not telling us what the ratio is...so don’t expect very much going into it.

Yeah I didn't notice that nuance. Makes sense now that you point it out. Yeah they probably don't have the space to be doing good runs of fully barrel aged.

I didn't notice the nuance either to be honest :sweat_smile:but then again I did not try the "base" pastry stout sans the BA blend either. I presume the blend keeps the pastry stout from being a complete and utter sugar bomb like some pastry stouts are. For a 14% pastry stout I thought it was pretty well rounded, so perhaps it was the BA blend which made it more "rounded" then your average diabeetus bomb.

Then again maybe not; I'm just bullshitting here haha

Latest batch of Trendler Schwarzbier is perfect. Dark and roasty and just dry enough that you're thirsty for the next sip...instantly. And if you don't take that next instant sip there's a nutty baked bread aftertaste that just begs you to do it ASAP.

Got a six pack of Modern Gulpie today too and was surprised to see a canning date of...November. Does that count as a TH Shelf Turd? Still, very refreshing, if not fresh.

Wow! I’d be pretty disappointed if I’m buying beer direct from a brewery that’s two months old. I like modern gulpie - and I guess thankfully didn’t get any in my last order from Dudley late last week. But if I ever get two month old beer direct from them - customer service is getting an email. If you cant sell it all fresh, make smaller batches. To me this is unacceptable from a brewery like tired hands

Generally speaking, lagers are good for at least six months. Around NYE, I got a sixer of modern gulpie from the same November batch. It is a glorified Bud Light, IMO. It tasted like hop water then and I am sure it still does.

I also think you need to assess the two month old beer in the context of the type of beer it is. American light lagers, saisons, stouts, are all fine to be sold at two months old.

Around mid December I got some Gulpie cans and they were dated 10/19/20. At first my inner hazeboi was enraged but after the first sip I was fine. It tasted awesome and it’s exactly what it’s described as - a full flavored light lager. I will def buy it again.

It was getting lagered for the better part of a month before it even got into cans, no reason why it can't last a few months once it's in cans.

I would buy Hop Hands and Alien Church constantly for shipping if I knew when they were canned. Since those releases are not announced on Instagram it's a shot in the dark.

Hey there - for the most part neither one is ever more than 2-2.5wks old at this point, and usually less than 1.5wks old. I feel like we’ve really dialed that in the last 6mo or so. For example, the Alien Church were selling right now was canned this past Tuesday. We started selling that yesterday I believe, when we sold out of the batch canned on 1/18. And we’re about to sell out of the HopHands batch canned on 1/21.

feel free to always hit us up on IG or at [email protected] - we’re not shy about giving the canning dates if people are interested.

What's the general turnaround on a shipping order? I ordered Wednesday and my label was created yesterday but it hasn't shipped. How long has it taken for y'all to get your packages in the past? In no way am I saying that it should be here already, just wondering on turnaround time in your experience.
