Long time member, took a long break from beer but slowly getting back into it. Anyway, has trading slowed down? The ISO post don't seem as active as they used to be

    Welcome back.

Slowed down compared to years ago, yes. But trades still happen.

Facebook and IG are also popular for trading. Rip reddit. Lol.

Not much reason to trade any more when I can get great beer locally. Also, splitting up the trade forum made searching and reading through trades cumbersome.

Good to know, I've always liked beeradvocate due to the feedback system.

A good ipa is easy to find nowadays, that was the real struggle years ago.

Yep! The local scene here in NYC started to take off in 2014. Prior to that I used to trade a lot for Alpine, PTE, etc.

Our overall site traffic is up, but trading has definitely slowed down during the pandemic.

I’d say it’s slowed down. Most of the trades now involve whales.

Slowed down on here. Most of the movement of beer is on facebook now. Secondary sales have become a lot more common as well and have eaten into the trading "market"

I still trade on here and have many ongoing back and forths with people that I know and trust.

BA trading is still a great community that I have not even close to be able to replicate on FB.

Communities don't always look for max profits. I enjoy hooking up friends even if I lose and have friends who feel the same way.

agreed, I’d rather trade on here if I can. Facebook is definitely more “shitlordy”

Yeah especially on the West Coast that's adopted Treehouse quality beers. I've become so jaded to it all because I don't live in Missouri, Iowa, or Chicago. All the stuff here is so easily proxy-ble for the most part that unless you're in a real hard to get in membership it's real difficult these days to get traction in the threads.

I trade 3-5 times a week between local and on here because of the pandemic. I have more free time so trading is easier. However, yes, beer trading is slower than bourbon trading.

    Cheers

Since the new trading changes have taken place, the number of trade offers seems to have declined. Subjectively I think the quality of trade offers has improved, but there seems to be less overall trade posts. Not sure what others think.

I expected the number of trades to go down (less people), but the quality to go up (mostly veterans/users who do more than just trade on BA). It'll be interesting to see how all of this evolves, but I think it'll continue to improve.

I took a hiatus from BA during the spring & summer. Since logging back in, it has been clear as day that trading is down significantly (judging solely on the volume of trade posts). There seems to be a higher percentage of whale hunting and bourbon trade than there was.

IPA 4 IPA trades appear to be down. Breweries from all around the country have dialed in their IPAs to the point where someone doesn't need to trade to taste a well executed NEIPA anymore. Maybe this plays a role in the reduction in hop trades.

The new trading rules definitely play a role in a smaller pool of traders. I'm sure there's a handful of factors that play a role in the current state of trading.

It does seem like bourbon and big name ba stouts are dominating things.

Came in to post this, I would much prefer to trade here, but it has been more difficult for me. My last 3-4 trades I posted here first, waited a few days, and nothing. I posted on Facebook and closed right away. I wish that were not the case, but it has been my experience as of late.

That aside, I have definitely traded less during the pandemic for random one-off things. I've maintained a few repeat trade partners.

I trade a lot locally, but I do close some stuff on here maybe once a week roughly.

The problem is that 2 of my friends want to trade on here but don't have enough points to be able to do so. One now has 36 points, so he's close but idk how dedicated new traders will be to get the points to be able to see if they want to be apart of or not... If I didn't tell him about here he'd prob just go the Facebook route (I don't like Facebook). I do like that there is some blocker to be able to trade but the 50 points is hard to round up tbh (imo). Maybe 5 or 10 points to be able to trade. My other friend hasn't signed up because he's too busy with work but just wants to trade and not invest the time with the community as much, I get it. But yeah, I can see how trading could be slowed down.

It'd be a shame if trading slowed down. I see a lot of the same traders posting and some ppl reaching out to me because I trade a lot. It'd be good to see some new traders too.

To sum up my rambling, I hope more ppl post trades and are apart of. Cheers!
