I'm a Straight Jacket junkie / apologist / zealot, so take this with a grain of salt.

Very strong batch this year; in my opinion, better than last year, which was a bit too boozy.

This trended more to the sweet end of the spectrum, which (for me) is ideal for this beer, but it doesn't spill over into "cloying".

A true expression of the English barleywine model that isn't overwhelmed with bourbon heat; almost like a cognac sipper.

Can’t say I disagree with anything said here. Only complaint is these cans can’t be purchased via 12-packs. Deep Woods 12 packs for 2021 would solve any issues I have with Rev

Had this last year at their New Years Day brewery draft only release, great free appetizers spread that day as well. Feels like years ago.

If this year's batch is the same/similar, dank, citrus, pine and grapefruit, balanced leaning toward a slight bitterness. My ratings were 4.25 / 4.5 / 4.25 / 4.25 / 4.25.

I'll pick some up from the brewery along with Coffee Eugene, A Little Crazy and their Half Acre Collaboration.

Revolution posted on Facebook about the upcoming Deep Wood release. You can still see the event page if you do not use Facebook, you just cannot see if there is any discussion.

Seems like only yesterday we were eagerly anticipating Thundertaker while wearing shorts. The end of the Deep Wood season snuck up on us. Again.
Public preorders for On & On: Part 1 and Apple Brandy Ryeway go live on Tuesday, January 19 for pickups starting on Friday, January 22.

The point about the 12 packs would be fun if they could work it into their logistics setup. Also, this is just me being a single serving evangelist, but if the crowlers (howlers?) were in 16 ouncers and the beers had a 8 ounce size, I'd be a pig in well, you know.

Having an SJ while grilling dinner. Maybe it’s the low-30s temperature, but this is tasting so much better than it was on release. Might be my favorite SJ so far!

What’s been everyone’s experience with this year’s Ryeway? I know the ABV is up there (highest it’s ever been?), but every few cans I seen to have one that is so heavy on the fusel alcohols on the nose and taste that it’s almost unbearable. Perhaps is something with my palate, whatever was eating or drinking before that could make that more apparent, unless it’s possible to have that variation across cans (seems hard to believe, but I’ve also really enjoyed the other cans where haven’t picked this up so much or at all).

I only had one can but absolutely loved it any I'm not normally a big ryeway or wye whiskey fan. Didn't find it overbearing at all the way you are describing.

In short, my palate > your palate

It's freakin' delicious and I hope it sells out before my next trip to the brewery or I'll buy more.

Great beer, but I'd rather get 48oz of fresh 2020 in 12oz cans for $25 that I can hold onto for awhile. If you spend the $30 for the 32oz you'll have to drink it soon, and all at once.

That Mineshaft Gap 1/6 barrel is looking pretty damn tempting...

Interesting day here. Started out by getting a surprise first vaccine dose, then a few hours later, well, I'm just gonna focus on the beer here...

Mineshaft and Ryeway finally showed up down here yesterday. Had a Mineshaft last night and am finishing the final sips of a Ryeway tonight. GD. Both are just exceptional. Where Mineshaft was like a more delicate and boozy candied apple version of Deep Woods, Ryeway is a complete barrel aged brute. The latter has the viscosity I recall of past SJs that this year's Jacket seems to be lacking. Both beers are certainly two crown jewels in the Deep Woods 20-21 lineup. I'll be going and getting more Ryeway this year without hesitation instead of getting more SJ.

:flushed:Didn't beer collecting teach you anything? You aren't supposed to take the vaccine, you are supposed keep it in your fridge at -94 degrees to humble brag about your vaccine whale collection...
