Not well versed in the ins and outs, but recall hearing it had to do with the production cost of that size bottle.

I have had a mag of 3F A&G in my cellar for a while and just can't seem to find a time to open it. Have had a couple of beer shares in this time, but I can't think of anything less appealing during a share where we are trying to consume as many bottles as we can, than a magnum of 1 beer. I am curious when others open these mags?

Yeah I agree with you that the magnum markup is kinda absurd but for whatever reason that seems to be the standard at a bunch of world-class breweries. One exception though is Russian River Beatification 3L which are $100 and significantly cheaper per oz than the 375s. Kinda baffling ha.

    Mostly glass, I think.

Also, maybe the beer going into it. I have an Arthur magnum from Hill in my fridge and that cost $45 back in 2018. That’s a $10, 750, at retail.

I would imagine one of their more inexpensive bottles like a Hill shelf saison, wouldn’t cost that much.

I was able to grab a Vintage 2018 mag after scrambling for Tete and Unblended.

I used to hate lines, but after 8 months living in STL without being able to have a SP stout or barleywine, I'm ready to stand in a line.

Beatification was the one example I thought of, what a fantastic beer too

Beyond handles of vodka or whatever, I don't think magnums (wine, champagne, beer, etc.) are viewed as the more cost-effective option . Make of that what you will, but I don't expect a "deal" when it comes to larger formats

The brewery is paying for glass. You are paying to have something “limited”. Logically I can’t think of any reason to ever buy a magnum if it’s available at half price per oz in smaller format.

Out of curiosity, wondering what people's preference is for storing/aging non-adjunct BA stouts - fridge or 55 degree temp/humidity controlled wine cellar.

There’s a pretty long standing consensus that larger format bottles allow for longer and more graceful aging of beer and wine. Oxygen is the number one factor and the ratio of oxygen to liquid is lower the larger the format.
