Same. I can't really find a great replacement, either. Maudite is a little too dry (but more "Belgian" tasting), nobody carries much Ommegang or Allagash anymore, and most imports cost about 50% more than US/CA stuff. Maudite is dirt cheap, but I don't like it as much. I probably need to revisit some of the big-brand imports like Maredsous, Grimbergen, Leffe, Corsendonk, etc. I've had almost all the major ones, but it has been a while with many of 'em.

I’ve been decidedly unimpressed by ORB’s belgy bois... not that they bad per se, but just lacking something.

I’m not that familiar with why, but would a ‘poorly attenuated’ beer be unnecessarily sweet or thick and maybe not as crispy? Ex: an about 5.5% Belgian dark that was like that.

Belgian yeast should be able to eat damn near anything including your neighbors cat. Not only do Belgian yeasts ferment simple sugars they also can ferment other sugars that some brewers yeasts can not ferment. Belgian yeasts can also slowly break down long chain sugars into small chain sugars and then ferment them as well. What does this mean for ORB? If they are using a funky house strain that is not a Belgian it may not attenuate as low leaving a beer sweet.

Interesting. Of the ORB Belgians I've had (3 sacc saisons, a BSDA, and a quad) none of them were particularly sweet. In general I find their beers to be somewhat dry for my tastes across the board. Just looking through their listings on Untappd, they clearly make a metric shitload of beers though.

I wouldn’t say that what I have tried was actually sweet... definitely thicker than I’d expect though, feel wise

What's the deal with barrel aged tropic king? Cant seem to find info on what barrels this beer was aged in. I'm hoping for wine barrels.

Just saw the website says neutral oak. And it pairs well with being on hold with the insurance company. It didnt specify spirits. My dreams are officially crushed.

    Locavore Lindy Tripel is good.

“Triple Lindy” Belgian Trippel– Pear and honey flavors show themselves in a big way in this traditional tripel. With intention we let our Tripel cold age for 60+ days allowing the European malts to shine and the complex Belgian flavors to marry together. 10% ABV, 39 IBU

If you're of the farmhouse style persuasion, we focus heavily on Saison at Cellar West (in Lafayette)

12 Degree always fly under the radar. It's been a few years, but they were easily the best local (Louisville) examples of Belgian style beers that I've had. It looks like they have some great crowler deals. I will have to try and make it up there as well.

12 Degrees won a shitload of awards a couple years ago. I kept meaning to head up there, but that area is about as inconvenient as they get for me. Plus, until recently they had no packaged options. Next time I have to head up to Boulder I'll probably swing by.

TRVE's Dubbel (The World that Was) is on shelves. Great take on one of my favorite styles. Grapevine has it, FYI.

Would you consider La Folie Belgian style? Still pretty darn good, imho.

It's kinda weird how Lambics don't usually get lumped in with "Belgian Styles." Flanders reds and browns (like La Folie) sometimes get forgotten entirely. Weird times, man :stuck_out_tongue:
