    Welcome back!

Some news (some of which was already in the last thread but it bears mentioning here too):

    1) Old Factory Brewing in Cairo opened two weekends ago. Haven't made it down there yet but likely will soon and I'll report back after that.

    2) Mixed Breed Brewing in Guilderland still slated for an April opening.

    3) Alternative Medicine Brewing in Mount Vernon is working on the taproom right now, no date on opening but I'd imagine first half of 2021. Maybe springtime.

    4) Still waiting on Foreign Objects in Monroe, sometime this year apparently.

    5) No update since October on Rail II River in Ravena, they were still building out the brewhouse then.

    6) Aurora on Cayuga Lake made a big, gorgeous addition to their taproom.

Good for Aurora. I really enjoy their beers when I have them on tap, specifically. I’ve wondered whether they’d move eventually, since their one horse town ties them up with weird zoning rules.

Got a new place opening this year (looks like by summer) in Geneva called Ardennes Brewing and god damn the building is gorgeous. Mix of Fox Farm/Drowned Lands vibes, which is apropos since it looks like they're gonna be focused on Belgian/farmhouse stuff.

Also just found a place called Eisenadler Brauhaus/Project Eisenadler in Palantine Bridge/Canajoharie. Obvious from the name, but a German-focused place and based on Facebook posts it looks like aiming to open this year.

Strange Bird Brewing looking at an opening in Rochester pretty soon. Gonna be right by the Strong Museum and they will "place a heavy emphasis on farmhouse ales, lagers, and an extensive wood-aging program."

    YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP. Sign me up.

Edit: Oh Shit! One of the brewers involved is Eric Salzar who was the driving force behind New Belgium's wild ale program for years. That's big.

I guess that's where he eventually landed after his move and then parting ways with Other Half.

Non-Sequitur in Brooklyn making moves on the taproom, hoping to be open within a couple months. They're gonna be very close to KCBC so you can make a nice little loop of KCBC/NS/Grimm/Interboro.

Ebbs posted a spot in Williamsburg Brooklyn on N 8th between Bedford and Driggs. I read some speculation before about them going in the old Mikkeller space at citi field. I guess not. Asked about that on insta comment but got no replies.

Even more additions to the Williamsburg scene. I think tales is also opening near there if I’m not mistaken.

That spot makes way more sense for a small, fledgling brewery than being way out of the way at Citi Field. Especially since we don't know what the fan situation will look like in baseball this year.

Western Union County is becoming a brewing hub it seems.

I wouldn't get too psyched about Lions Roar until we see it. I'm expecting more of Yale Terrace than even Twin Elephant.

Even during a regular season: that brewery has no access from inside the stadium. So no beers for me during games, and I’m sure not going to make my kid watch me drink before the game when we could be checking out the scene.

Yeah. Curious to see how it grows. Definitely going to get foot traffic.

Hit up Old Factory in Cairo as promised. They're gonna do very well. Caveat that the beer needs some fine-tuning and continued improvement. It was fine, I'd drink it again, but flavors were kind of muted. That said:

    1) Good variance on the taplist. A couple pale ales, a brown, a red and a blonde right now. Said they're working on a DIPA. The brown, red and blonde will be terrific gateway beers for a lot of the "I'm a Miller Lite guy" crowd they'll draw from a rural area without a lot of craft beer experience.

    2) The space is fantastic. It's huge, it makes great use of its past lives as a factory/production facility and there's a lot to look at.

    3) Massive front porch that'll be absolutely killer in the nicer weather.

    4) Got some TVs so it'll be a nice grab-a-pint-and-watch-the-game spot for an area without much in the way of that.

    5) Super friendly, personable owner.

    6) Close to Subversive/Hudson/Crossroads so they'll draw from beer trail/tourism traffic.

I'd definitely go back in warmer months to drink outside. Also, good looks to whoever on last year's thread recommended the Alpine Pork Store down the road -- got some killer knockwurst and dill havarti cheese. Will be going back next time I'm in town.

Appreciate the report. Can’t wait to check them out next summer perhaps.

Haha that was me. Nice, I’m glad you paid them a visit. Not too many mom & pop butcher shops around these days, especially ones that focus on German food. Such a good small business to support.

I gotta check out that cheese. Knockwurst is a good choice. When I go I typically opt for a few brats and knockwurst (be sure to grab some currywurst ketchup too, that shit is tasty).

Next time you go don’t sleep on that landjager and that maplewood double smoked bacon. Best bacon (and landjäger) I’ve ever had. Landjäger really comes in handy when you’re hiking/camping. They also make some great homemade lieberkase, which I hadn’t had before. Soooo good. Fuck now I’m hungry.

Oh man, the landjager, bacon and currywurst ketchup sound great. On the list for the next visit for sure, good looks!

Also, if you're ever up in the Albany area we have Rolf's Pork Store, which is a very similar spot I highly recommend anyone hitting up. It's only 4-5 miles from Fidens (since I know that place is just gonna continue to bring people in the area) and on the way back to 90/87 anyhow so its an easy stop.
