What beer are you drinking now? #3013

I don’t know the story behind it, but Stone had a few different beers in upside down cans, I think it was a statement about 2020... but I could be wrong.

Bit early for me I didn’t have second breakfast yet.

 

Getting my day started with some Biscotti & Coffee imperial stout from Trillium with coffee, toasted almond, vanilla and lactose. Not bad, pretty robust coffee, almond chunk floaters, sweet vanilla, this is from a year and a half ago, still tasty. Cheers all!

I bet it’s been 8 years or more since I’ve had one of these, bought it at a drive thru stop and go because I had the puppy with me. 10-1 bottling and still fabulous. Beer HOF kinda beer that imo is probably overlooked in the chase for sexy IPAs, at least that’s my excuse here.

 

Another edition of Beer Science Tuesday at the pub...today I brought 3 Quads (TR 10, ABT 12, and a Westy 12) for a blind side by side:



Poured at 51°. 1, 2, 3 left to right. Number 1 was darker and had a fruity esters and banana nose. 2 and 3 were very similar in appearance and caramel malt/fig nose. Number 1 was malty with a hint of roast. 2 and three had similar fig tobacco dirt caramel flavors. 2 had some black pepper, and 3 was grapey with candied apple, and the most complex of the three.

My favorite was no. 3, just nudging out no. 2.
My thoughts were 1 was ABT 12 11/16/19; 2 was TR 10 2/25/20, and 3 was the Westy 12 12/7/17. And the reveal:



I nailed it! The bartender Travis also did the blind and picked out the ABT 12. His favorite was no. 2, but had no guess as which was which...I knew the Westy was older, and given it was more layered and complex I could pick it out from the TR. Fun fact - the bar’s co-owner just did the blind and correctly identified all three on sight/nose alone! Cheers!

 

I don’t drink spirits, so any barrel aged stuff I have must be subtle. Too far forward on the booze doesn’t work for me. This Bourbon Imperial Porter from Collective Arts is about perfect for my tastes.

Saw this Toronto band open for David Usher and thought they would make it. For some reason it didn’t work out. As for the second song, we’ve got to blame it on something. Cheers.

 

Not really expensive. The TR costs $7 and ABT $6 here, and I got the Westy my last trip to Brussels, maybe 8 or 9 euros? Cheers!

Moving along, I'm now having a Hipster IPA from Iron Hill. It's a NEIPA. Lots of tropical fruits. Sour in the nose, but sweet on the palate. Good, not great.

 

Haven’t had one in years. Do they still use that super sturdy can or have they gone to thinner material. Cheers.
