I gotta admit, I thought Mash PB&J was pretty darn good. I will agree that the PB flavor was mostly non-existant, but the Mash J ended up being a solid addition to the Mash line. New Mash base or not, I would get this one again.

It’s true that those are closed, but Brewery X, literally a quarter mile from Terreux, has defied the head nitwits orders and is open for seating. If you haven’t been there, this place is magnificent and worth a visit. It is gigantic and social distancing isn’t an issue. They have their own food operation and it’s very good too.

Feel free to crush me if this is trite and annoying question, but what does the transition from Reserve Society to Hoarders Society invite usually look like? Is it usually a few years? After a certain amount of $ has been spent? Some mysterious formula like karma on BA?

No crushing necessary; this is a very fair question. Unfortunately there is no clear answer, and “mysterious formula” is actually a great way to describe it.

In theory it is some combination of years, purchase amounts, in person visits, luck, etc. but members have compared stats over the years and there’s no consistent pattern that I have ever heard about. I think most take a few years but pretty sure some got in after only a year or two in RS.

I see you are in NY and can tell you that many of us non-locals got invited after a few years in RS, so lack of in person visits is not a barrier. Hope you are able to land an invite in the coming years if you stick with the Society!

It's an honest question and gets asked once or twice a year. The short answer is that nobody outside of The Bruery really knows. It's probably a mixture of everything with "hey, I know him, he's a good dude" thrown in.

    Cool?

I don't think they're defying anybody, if they were defying the state of California they could lose their license and likely the business would fold. Do they have an on site kitchen? If so, they are allowed to be open while tasting rooms without an on site kitchen must stay closed.

Nice! Thanks so much for your perspective. And yeah, being in NYC I can visit the D.C. location from time to time, but it's not an every week thing, so that's good to hear. I'm excited for what the RS has to offer. It's of course just hard not to be jelly over things like Creme Bruelay and the other exclusive offers. Then again, I'll actually be able to maintain fridge space (maybe), so that's good!

It's interesting because Orange County and Riverside County Sheriffs in December said they wont enforce it. Brewery X then did a statement saying that they are doing everything to have a safe environment and that they were going to continue being open

I'm not sure about the DC location, but I know at the OC location HS members are there frequently and would buy you an HS only pour for sure.

I think breweries that are open are doing it out of necessity more than sticking it to the man. Brewery X is pretty new and I would assume they need to be open to continue being a business. However, breweries like Modern Times, Bruery, and Bottle Logic are all closed but likely have enough cash reserves to where they don't need to open yet.

Formula unknown. I did a year of Preserve, three years Reserve, and just started my second year of Hoarders. I was only able to make it once to the tasting room in person. Outside of the membership was probably spending around $2k per year. YMMV.

Opened an Apple Falls Far. Really good - I like it more than when I tried it fresh. It's still super sweet, but that sweetness doesn't quite go too far like I thought it did before. I also think there's a touch more carbonation which likely helps that a lot. Intense yet balanced flavor is really fantastic - apple first with cinnamon and scotch just hints to compliment.

Just cracked Still Black Tuesday. VERY impressed. I expected it to sip and say it tastes like flat BT. To me, this has a Port-like feel with a slight sherry finish. Wanted to also see if any opinion as to how many times I can open and close and how long people think I can open it for. I would think this is like a bottle of wine that you can probably open half a dozen times over the course of a week or so and just enjoy in nice 3-6 oz pours. I can tell BT is there, but feels like a whole new experience to me. Really loving it and think I'm going to re-up for a few! Obviously, can't do this all the time. But, then prospect of being able to enjoy over time really has me into it!

I’ve bottled some of my higher abv wine ba stouts still and they hold up a long time. I’ve had some ‘open’ for weeks without any issues. I imagine still BT will be similar.

I cracked one last night and thought it did a pretty good job of replicating the Samoa flavors in beer form (although I'm not a Samoa connoisseur by any means). In particular, it nails the dried flaked coconut flavor, whereas most beers with coconut taste more like fresh coconut or coconut milk/cream to me.

Opened my one Birnesap tonight. I had an Apfelsap 2020 on New Years Eve and I think I liked that more, but honestly this doesn't taste too different and I still like it quite a bit. The pear flavor is there but the base beer is so strong and bright that both of them, to me, kind of taste like Martinelli's but stiffer and with slightly different fruit flavors. Although the apple in apfelsap does seem to shine a bit more. Not bad at all in the end!

Had Elvis Mash last night but wasn’t a big fan. A little disappointed because based on the description it should have been up my alley (Barleywine, banana, peanut). It kind of reminded me of out of the lunch box which I also didn’t like once upon a time.

That being said I had Oh, My Cherry earlier in the week and it was incredible. Maybe my favorite Barleywine ever!

Opened up a rue’d attitude and it tasted much better than I remember. Coffee was still huge but the cherries really popped on this. Definitely recommend opening this if you have a bottle. Dangerously drinkable too.
