    This comment is nonsensical.

Their year around beers inlude a Pilsner, Doppelbock, Wheat Beer, American Lager, Coffee Stout, Dubbel, and Tripel. Only Perpetual, Hopback Amber, and the seasonal IPAs are hoppy.

Mad Elf is much better after a year in the cellar to tone down the sweetness.

At worst it drinks like a quality Amber that has good hop bitterness to balance it, I find a lot of amber beers too sweet.

But the problem is that the cans I've drank this year do not reflect Tröegs marketing, which decribes the beer as "Excessively dry-hopped, Nugget Nectar is an explosion of pine, resin and mango." So while I don't trust my memory to accurately compare to how it tasted 10 years ago, I can definitively say that the (extremely fresh) cans I drank this past week do not match the description from Tröegs.

Is there a state/regional release schedule? Usually they put one out, but I've searched and can't locate it. Obviously interested in MA/New England.

Yeah, in past years they released the whole schedule in the initial press release, but I havent seen one this year.

@oneraindog may be of help, he works for Troegs

I had one last night, 16 oz can FB 04/29. It was good, aroma was middle of the road and same with the hoppiness; but nice head that remained throughout. Nicely balanced, enjoyable to drink and comes with tons of nostalgia so worth the purchase. But if you are looking for a hop bomb yeah this would not be for you (at least in this format).

In previous years, when there were 'good' batches, Nugget Nectar had a very notable hop aroma to it. Those beers were very much hop bombs. Or to use the description from the Troegs website:

“Excessively dry-hopped, Nugget Nectar is an explosion of pine, resin and mango.”

    Cheers!

Just had my 16oz can with 04/29 date. Glad I passed on the sixtel. Consider me disappointed.

It sounds to me like the 12oz cans might be better than the 16oz?

    Anybody compare side by side?

I had a 16 oz last night and while it was good, it did taste a little “flat” with little carbonation.

With the reports coming in about the cans not being great either, I think my 6 pack bottle purchase will be my last of NN season. First time I think I won’t either purchase a case or make multiple smaller format purchases.

I’m sure I’ll try a draft pour if I see it though like a complete sucker.

I’m out this year. Too many meh to not good batches the last few years. At $12.99 I will spend a few $ more and grab some Hop Slam

    Enjoy

I felt the same about the carbonation and it tasting a little flat but at least the head was good.

    Very true.

I can still recall trying this beer for the first time at the old Sean Bolan's pub in Federal Hill/Baltimore. Sean Bolan's was my "local" back in the day, and I was always complaining to the owner how much I missed the great West Coast style IPA's I drank back in California (think Racer 5). I'm sure the owner got tired of hearing my complaints, and I still remember him handing me a pint of this new beer back in 2003 I believe: "Here. Try this and tell me what you think." I was completely blown away. To my palate, this new beer (Nugget Nectar of course) was the finest IPA I had ever tasted on the East Coast, and one of the finest beers I'd ever tried. And yes, it was an absolute hop bomb. The owner of Sean Bolan's was pretty impressed as well, and advised me that he had spoken to Troegs about having a dedicated tap handle for NN at his bar (which up until that time, he had only done for Guinness). Of course that wasn't possible (given that it was a seasonal offering), but that'll give you an idea how impressive the beer was.

Could go on and on telling anecdotal stories about NN, but I know you know what I'm talking about. I still think it's a pretty good beer, most of the time, but the most recent batches I've sampled... I would not call it a hop bomb.

Picked up 2 single bottles dated with a best by date of 4/28. No aroma, but def. a pleasant flavor and easy to drink. It’s piney with a ton of mango on the back end. Reminds me of previous years as far as flavor goes.

Bought a bottled sixer today at a Giant Eagle in Pittsburgh.
    BB 05/03/21.

    It’s....ok. It’s average.

The brightness, the crispness, the intensity - it just isn’t there. My batch of NN is more malty and sweet. Almost sickeningly sweet. That punch in the mouth I like is nowhere to be found. This beer feels kinda dumbed down.

I love Nugget Nectar. I will always take a chance on fresh batches. I’ve had a plethora of tasty bottles, cold cans, and fresh pours over the years to know that the good far outweighs the bad.

I will say though - if they can ever recapture that pre-new brewery vibe in a bottle and put it on my local shelves, I’ll buy a lot of it.

This was in the email from Troegs on January 14th:
So by this week it should be in all of their markets

I just did, nothing yet on this side of the Delaware. Anxiously waiting to be disappointed again and get all nostalgic about 2000-and-whatever-it-was before NN got all inconsistent.

I mean, Massachusetts' Uncle Ralph might have written "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin* of little minds..." but he obviously wasn't talking about beer (either Nugget Nectar or *Wychwood's flagship ale).

I bought two 4-packs of 16 once cans today with a BB date of 5/12/21

Everyone needs to remember this came out in 2004.

Im sure back then it was indeed "explosion of pine, resin and mango."

I still love this beer BUT it most certainly is not whats quoted above today and I agree the nose is mild but the question becomes this:

Does a brewery then rebrand or re-market a beer to adjust for the times? Should they not be calling this an "explosion of pine, resin and mango." and have a big hop cone being squeezed for dear life in today's market ?

    OR

Do they adjust the recipe to keep up with the demand of more aggressively hop forward ales

    OR

YES the lupulin shift is real and we all just need to reset our pallets and drink more things then IPA?

    OR

This is an imperial amber after all

P.S. This is still a great beer!

Taste changes aside, it is still one of the most beautiful looking beers out there.
