I feel like this brewery doesn't get talked about or hyped enough on here and they are well deserving of their own thread. Mostly though, I wanted to see if anyone else got a 4 pack of their 5th anniversary Quintuple IPA they just released and I needed a place to chat about it. At 15% ABV, it sounds incredibly interesting and I am looking forward to trying it out tonight.

I've gotten the sense that some on here didn't care for how Pure used to do things (hype, putting out the same beers, some IG-posting errors, etc.) but I agree; they've gotten a lot better recently. Their offerings have been more widespread instead of just IPAs and pastry stouts, their ordering system has been great (no issues like when they were using bpt) and expanding across SD county and delivering to LA and OC has definitely helped.

I've enjoyed most of what I've had from them but I never see anybody post about them so I never know which beers I should order for shipment.

I did get 1 4-pack of the quint IPA but sadly I won't have it in hand for about 8-9 days. I love getting Rain whenever I see it here in OC, and Home for the Holihaze is a seasonal DIPA I look forward to every year that they do with Burgeon.

For what its worth, the quad IPA they released in December (Forest of Giants) was pretty tasty, I got a 4-pack of that too. It got a little better each week, the underlying alcohol flavor died out by the 4th can. Might try the same approach with the quint IPA but wait a week or two before starting.

Mr K's over by Bruery (OG location) gets in Rain and one of their mainline IPA's somewhat regularly. I went last Friday and they had leftovers of Home for the Holihaze and Romeo and Julius as well. O'Shea Brewing down in Aliso Viejo also has gotten them in on occasion.

Their mixed ferm program is way underrated. Can hold a candle to other breweries, even those known for that specifically. Have really liked Euphorik (blackberry), Roes Red, Madeline, Intuitive Knowledge, and Lief (their take on gueuze). I really didn’t know that they did much else than hazy IPAs before I took a little road trip to San Diego in November. I visited their Balboa Park location and the outdoor set-up was amazing, with lots of heaters and tons of comfy seating. The service was great as well, really accommodating and knowledgeable staff. I was with my disabled mom who needs adequate back support, and they gave us one of their two couches as soon as it opened up. I’m a big fan.

I tried out the Quintuple IPA last night. You can definitely tell it’s high ABV but I would never guess 15%. It’s really well balanced and not too sweet like high ABV beers can sometimes get. I did get some alcohol burn on the finish, so it will be interesting to see how it tastes in a week or two.

i have yet to have any of their beers, however they bought the former Iron Fist location here in Vista, so when they move in, they will be the closest brewery to me, so I hope they do some west coast and lagers.

They do both as core beers: Pure West and Rain.

Iron Fist...there's a name I haven't heard in awhile. I remember trying the Ken Schmidt Chocolate Mint Stout years ago and being so blown away I made the trek to the Vista brewery only to find that none of the other beers were nearly as good.

If Pure Project is good to very good, it will be a significant qualitative step forward from the prior beers I experienced at that location.

I had the same experience, I grew up very close to that cluster of breweries in Vista. I remember getting that mint stout at Stone maybe 8-9 years ago and it blowing my socks off. Only other beer I really liked from them was the Counter Strike IPA but I usually only got it at Petco in the pre-COVID days. Stoked that Pure bought the place though!

I've been to their three locations, most recently the Balboa Park one last weekend. This time I only picked up some Tropical Mist which I've had before and enjoyed. I've had 4 or 5 of their other beers previously and thought they were pretty solid.

I opened both a Frozen In Time and a Shadow of the Moon tonight

Frozen In Time: Smelled much more like bourbon burn than it tasted, ended up coming up real chocolately with signficant barrel presence, but not much burn at all for 16.5%. Only gripe is that I wish it was thicker. Otherwise, a pretty tasty beer for Pure's first attempt at a double barrel stout.

Shadow of the Moon: Weirdly this hid the alcohol better than Forest of Giants at first (to me). Tropical hops and sweetness that melt into a sweet alcohol burn. I really can't say whether its good or bad because this is the first quintuple IPA I've ever seen/had. I personally like it, but I found that by the time I got to the 3/4 mark of the can it tasted more like booze than it did a stiff IPA. I'd recommend splitting this cold with someone else.
