Which begs the question: which Elvis is that beer named after?

If I was forced to drink only one beer the rest of my life, that would be it.

Ok, it’s time to get on here with a beer, which is an excellent new DIPA from Collective Arts. Love this beer.

No Canadian songs today, but was in a Brit mood while lifting, so want to get a few of those on. Cheers. [IMG]

I liked the first book Annihilation, but the movie and book are pretty different (not necessarily in a bad way). The other two books in the Southern Reach series kind of lost the narrative thread for me, thought they were kind of overrated. Maybe I need to revisit those, asI like how he writes, but those last two just didn't have anything new to say for me. I do love his Sci-Fi Borne series. The first book is just called Borne, and is great. The second is called Dead Astronauts, and is in the same world, not a sequel. Its very out there and avant garde, and I love it.

I tried reading Gormenghast when I was in high school, as I had just finished TLOTR's and of course The Hobbit. It was definitely over my head then and don't remember finishing it. Then I reread them a few years ago and absolutely loved them

Oh I just picked up a great first edition of Never Let Me Go, looking forward to reading it. Ishiguro also has a new book coming out in a few months, looking forward to that as well.

    Howdy!
Checking in after my 8 mile run, did 50 for the week.
I'd feel great if I didn't have a giant bruise on my bicep. The hazards of running at 50.
Aecht Helles Lager here... und Prost! Doing a little backyard happy hour, masked and distance, so probably my only live today "here." Stay well...

I haven’t read the book Annihilation but saw the movie. The other day I watched a Nic Cage film called Color Out Of Space, which unknown to me was based on an H.P. Lovecraft story called The Color Out Of Space. They seem to share very similar themes/ideas.

That's why I loved the adaptation of Annihilation . . . it captured a certain aspect of its spirit without being a slavish interpretation. As for Ishiguro, don't get me started; I think he's among the few top writers in the English language today. I'm even a big fan of The Unconsoled, which is polarizing, I know. At any rate, I pre-ordered his new one a few weeks ago. Thanks for the tip on the Borne books; I'll add them to the list!

In celebration of Charlie Papazian and National Pie Day, I’ve assembled a pear and apple pie...into the oven it goes while I relax with a Hubbard’s Cave “Coco Van” (2020), imperial stout with toasted coconut and vanilla beans:

Sweet but not cloying. Plenty of vanilla. I’ve written my tasting notes into my log...we’ll see if I gin up enough gumption to post my thoughts over on NBW...in the meantime, the pie comes out at 4...come on over and have a slice!
