Hi all, I am looking for a beer related gift for my brother in law. I was wondering if any breweries do something like a monthly beer subscriptions or a variety pack of rare beers or something else fun. If it matters, he lives close to the Half Acre Brewing off Lincoln. Thanks for any help! eek
I like the beer/merchandise bundles that Revolution will offer time to time. They change up often, but check out: https://revbrew.com/shop?type=beer#combos The entire shop link is at: https://revbrew.com/shop
Gift card to Bottles & Cans right up the street. That way he can get exactly what he wants. Also, if you are not aware, that store allows the purchase of singles of anything they sell. https://www.bottlesandcanschicago.com/shop
Bottle shops are your best bet for beer subscription options, as opposed to breweries, but I wouldn’t expect super rare beers to be included. Although, I imagine it would still be an enjoyable assortment, assuming it’s from a reputable bottle shop. I know Beer Temple offers subscriptions: store2.craftbeertemple.com/beer-of-the-month-club-1 If your bro-in-law is more into trendy styles, you might consider creating your own customized order to be picked up or delivered from a bottle shop. You could even repeat this each month & it would essentially be the equivalent of a subscription (minus the shelfies lol). Bottles & Cans is just down the street from Half Acre (Lincoln Ave), Bitter Pops is about one mile further down Lincoln, with Beermiscuous another mile further. I would think these shops would be more than happy to help you create whatever beer gift package you're looking for if you give them a call. Bottles & Cans- not sure if they deliver, but could always set up your gift for curbside pickup. I know they allow you to break up 4/6pks & prorate per can w/o any upcharge. Pretty solid option if you ask me. bottlesandcanschicago.com (note: facebook seems best for getting info) Bitter Pops- offers delivery, but don't know if they allow breaking up 4/6pks. They do have a create your own 6pk option, but not sure how selection is. bitterpops.com (might check facebook for add'l info) Beermiscuous- offers delivery; all bottles/cans sold as singles; their website actually seems informative lol beermiscuous.com (potentially no need for facebook!) In general, variety packs of rare beer don't seem to be too common. However, I recall some “Beer Advent Calendar” boxes utilizing this as a selling point. Won’t help you now, but could be a nice gift idea for the future: beeradvocate.com/community/threads/very-important-question-beer-advent-calendars.646999/ As people have suggested, ordering direct from breweries is another option, and has become much more convenient with breweries adapting to current times. Revolution currently has some of their highly rated barrel-aged beers available on their webstore, and the “combo” bundles mentioned above (@VinHalen54) could make for great gift ideas. revbrew.com Off Color Brewing has some solid mix-pack options, and they deliver. Their stouts & wild ales are excellent. offcolorbrewing.com Dovetail makes the best lagers in Chicago, and their house lager, simply called ‘Lager,’ might be my favorite beer period (bold statement, I know!). Dovetail has described Lager as a "Franconian-inspired pale lager." They offer delivery. Fyi- Dovetail is close (~0.5mi) to Half Acre (Lincoln). dovetailbrewery.com Phase Three Brewing is a great option for stouts & hazy ipa's, with More Brewing being known for these styles as well. As mentioned above (@Quilentro), these breweries both offer delivery options. phasethreebrewing.com morebrewing.com
Right on @jmk! Had included B&C when I started my response on Monday, but didn’t have time to finish/post until now. Curious- on fb saw they offer curbside pickup, but is there a way to order online? Didn’t see anything on their website…
Awesome list. Since you’re shout out my local shops— Bottles and cans doesn’t deliver but you can break up 4/6 packs into single cans. Bitter pops delivers but doesn’t sell singles, also they are moving to a new space and closed until next week.
