Had 2 and 3 together last night. Yeah I think 2 is the overall winner on second thoughts. Just a little less sweet / bit more “balanced”*. Both great though. Personally I would find 12oz perfect**. 8oz would be great for like 15-16%+ (or practically any OH stout).

    *by pastry stout standards
**although obviously in this case the size was great for allowing a side by side without total self loathing afterwards

8oz stubby challenge - try and open one of those cans without beer splattering everywhere. I’m on can 6 of 8 now, and am 0 for 6 so far. The last couple you’d need a time lapse video to watch the opening process at a normal-looking speed, and still failed.

Tilt it and open over a glass. Learned that lesson after opening my first can

Man I'm not the only one but at least you know they're giving us the full 8 oz. I picked up the Barleywine over the weekend and the base is really good, think the base stout is still my favorite of the 5 so far. The Vanilla version is good but I don't think the vanilla adds all that much but I guess I'll need to do a side to side to see if that's true or not.

Also don't sleep on the Black Lager, really good stuff.

My personal ranking is: #1, #3, #5, #2, #4. The stout base was definitely terrific and a pure joy to drink. I have to give the coffee one another shot. It was good, but was a total coffee bomb that muted everything else. It might chill out after a few weeks. #3 had a nice cinnamon presence, but wasn't overpowering. #4 (barleywine base) was the last one I tried over the past few weeks, so some of the novelty may have been lost. I liked the vanilla a little better.

+1 for the Black Lager. First few sips are kinda roasty, which is fine, but then as the palate adjusts and it warms, the beer turns out some beautiful caramel notes.

The banana variant of maple bourbon and red wine stout, Great Northern 6 is available on their website.

Very conflicted on this. 2 x 4 pack min. order. Tax, tip and shipping and its $100 for 8 mini cans of beer. But those first two were damn good.

Yeah, I feel it, but $100 shipped for 4 16 oz BA stouts would be great! I've got the ipa coming and will let you know how that is, though I'm not sure I'll get it until next Tuesday or so. It'd be awesome if they shipped on Friday for nyc area shipments (where we have Saturday UPS delivery!) The other stout ALMOST had me!

Also @xenjoiii (hopefully can pass the message along and maybe this is possible?) it'd be nice if there was an option to tip as a flat $ amount rather than only by percent.

Drinking ALL DRESSED UP AND NOWHERE TO GO, and, while I haven't had one in a while, it reminds me of what I used to taste in Tired Hands IPAs. The color is feint orange and it has that very oaty sweetness that trigged "oats vs diacetyl" debates in the past. The hops are a little green; there's a little tingly sensation as it goes over the tongue, but it's otherwise smooth and fruity.

Anyone try #6 yet? I bought some in the end. The rationalizing was via my wife wanting to make a stew that required Guinness, so after lots of mental gymnastics and “trust me”‘s I put an order in, with the “Guinness” being that Baltic porter they had available.

Cmon, after all this time I know your wife couldn’t possibly accept the weird beer logic that you, me and others throw out there to justify our purchases and excursions !

Anyone have a sense how the new ET Greenhouse Pils compares to the one they released in November (it was the pink can)? This is a different label (reddish/orange label), but it seems to be identical in the description, except that they removed the word "foudre" from American Oak Foudre. This new one still has American Oak conditioning.

Perhaps that's it, but I'm not enough of a pilsner/lager expert to know how that affects things tastewise whatsoever!

Probably different hops used in brewing and/or dry hopping. Haven't had either but if @Feaor is around I'm sure he has an idea.

Thanks-- it seems like they both have Saaz and Hersbrucker hops from the description, but maybe there are other ones or the crops taste different.

I think that one also had German tradition hops. Never heard of them but it’s in the description and I googled it and it’s a thing

Thanks, I missed the tradition! The new one is phenomenally soft and crushable. Highly recommend.

Finally cracked open my first Northern Series 6 can. Really great and unbelievable that it's still available. Interested to see how it compares to Other Half's Bananaversary beers. Also had ET Stay Home 4 - Royal Treatment a few nights ago which was almost as amazing as the Even More Hydra they just put out, but it was pretty difficult to finish 16 oz of it. Would be way better in 8 oz cans. Had high hopes for the Banana Cinnamon Bun stout but could really pick up on the adjuncts that well.

Are ETNYC hops low key getting slept on? I’ve noticed some of the usual hoppers who get more attention (OH, Grimm, Finback) seeming to have some variation in color and haze. Some seem to come in a little darker or a A little less hazy. ET always seems to come in with that consistent pale yellow very opaque looking haze. I know going off strictly appearance is not the best barometer, but it is something I consider when looking for consistent quality. OH always used to have that consistent pale yellow haze, but noticed a bit of a stray from that.

The mere fact that Anthony form R+B also has hand in the ETNYC IPAs is a huge factor as well.

Is this just speculation? Are their IPAs nothing to write home about? Or am I onto something? While some of the aforementioned NYC haze producers having some quality hiccups I look forward to exploring this theory.
