    Penn Brewery's Chocolate Meltdown is up to the plate. It's a one-trick pony. It's all chocolate all the time. Just a small touch of roasted malts in the background. I suppose they're advertising the chocolate, so I shouldn't be surprised. I still rated it a lot below it's BA average.

    Compared to the 2020 version I reviewed earlier this month (4.25 4.0 4.5 4.75 4.5), it has lost some of the pizzazz that freshness may have brought to the table, but no qualms about the aging overall.

    Super Mole is a barrel-aged, pepper infused Baltic porter from Jack’s Abbey. The carbonation is a bit low in this bottle. Cheers!

    look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75

    Dull, semi-cloudy dark brown body; fizzy head that dissipates quickly, leaving a thin, wispy head; the head then develops more as the beer sits, leaving a fine yet thin sheet of foam floating atop the beer. Faint cocoa with raisins and figs on the nose; phenolic. Cocoa and bitter chocolate with fermented plums and figs in the taste; cheap red wine. Medium-heavy body; a bit thin for the style; dusty and woody; alcohol heat.

    I'm not sure where I got this beer, and there is no dating information on the bottle, but I suspect it's circa 2015. I believe this beer hasn't aged as well as other heavy hitting ales might. It still has some appeal, especially with the taste, but other aspects, while decent enough, just don't make for an very memorable experience at this stage.

    Well, the weather report was a little off and it was only -25 Celsius for my walk this morning. Still, that is -13 Fahrenheit for American Advocates, so plenty cold enough.
