What beer are you drinking now? #3023

Happy Friday BA! Drinking a Palm while I prepare my light lunch:



A pound of cow and a salad, don't want to spoil my dinner. Palm is pretty tasty, but after 3, I'll be switching to IPAs (and probably a BW for the tasting today).

Bear Republic Hop Shovel and some house chili with slow braised beef shoulder yum!

 

Blind beer from @Justonemore91 , who hit me with a box full of blinds this week. A very generous offering! I’m sure I’ll get them all horribly wrong. I’m not good at this like @TheIPAHunter is.



L - 3-finger dense, bright white head atop a glowing orange body. Lacing is intermittent but lasting. Definitely a neipa.
S - tangerine, orange, a little berry, a little floral. Initial guess would be citra, maybe mosaic, and some other hop.
T - holy shit this is juuuuuuuuicy. Tangerine juice, a little earthy, a little danky, still getting some floral hops in the middle. Pleasingly dry finish. Doubting my guess of citra/mosaic now. There are new school hops at the forefront here (not sabro, maybe strata?)
F - rather full bodied with ample carb.
O - doesn’t taste like Other Half. Or Evil Twin. Or any nyc brewery I’ve had. I’m guessing this is a Treehouse brew, given the insane juicy hop taste.

The reveal:

Hol. E. Shit. I’ve never gotten the brewery right on a blind. I think I fucked up the hops but I’m counting this as a victory. 1 out of 50! I’ll take it. Thank you @Justonemore91 for rocking my world!

Just found out that my local LCBO has gotten in some Cigar City Florida Man DIPA and Oscar Blues Can-O-Bliss DIPA, so may have to leave the bunker tomorrow and enter the world for a few minutes.

Moving on to a new favorite from Norway’s Lervig, an India Red Ale.

This is by far my favorite Hair Metal Power Ballad. Play it often while working out. Cheers.

Cheers everyone! Right now I'm drinking an old 2012 vintage Olde School Barleywine style ale brewed with figs and dates by Dogfish Head. This is definitely one of the oldest beers I've ever tried, and still holding up really well as expected for a 15% barleywine. It's like drinking a dry dark sherry wine, some dark dried fruitiness, figs and dates still present without any tartness, rich deep malts, hint of maple, toffee, molasses, some roasty char, chocolate, red grape, raisin, slight dark berry, maybe apple, super smooth, complex, goes down pretty easy, mild earthiness on the finish with subtle toasted nut notes, really great. I got this 2012 bottle in the EBF Cyberspace package that gave everyone a random vintage Olde School. I figured I'll have enough beers to drink during the event and I won't need to close my night with a 15% barleywine, so what better occasion to open this up than this weekend's Barleywine Tasting? To make things even cooler, I will open one of my two remaining 2017 Olde School Barleywine bottles after for comparison, since I've been waiting for a day to open one of those up and try it again. This 2012 vintage was a nice surprise and I'm glad I got to experience this, as it's drinking rather nicely right now, really good stuff.

Mrs. Z had a new huge couch delivered this afternoon...I’ve been helping her rearrange the furniture and clean floors...Friday is yard day and I spent the morning trimming back a large swath of jasmine from the back fence...and I’ve been sipping on a Helldorado (2016):



I’m pooped. Maybe I’ll relax and try to post some beer notes, and haul pics...maybe I’ll take a nap... Cheers!
