I know @Feaor had nothing but positive things to say about Grimm Lite over the summer

For those Pilsners Konig and Radeberger are in the same price range and a step above, imo. They're usually found in the same places, too.

I have not had a chance to try that one yet. My friend went to the brewery a few weeks ago and brought me back a variety pack but that wasn’t included. I did get to try the Vienna though - which was very good. I’m going to have to seek this one out.

Also Rothaus Pils is definitely my favorite pils. I wish it was delivered fresh more often.

And I wish it was priced well 'south' of the 16 bucks a six-pack that my local beer retailers charge for this beer. While Rothaus is a high quality German Pilsner it is not worth this price IMO.

    Cheers!

Sad I missed yore. Hope it makes a come back. But got some yclept and precipice coming my way. I know I’ve got the lager stein evil twin NYC is currently selling online waiting for me under my Christmas tree. Can’t wait to fill it up with that dark Czech lager.

yclept will be the second pale lager outside of vliet from threes that I’ll be trying. Just recently finished my last courage my love, which was very good. Had a single can of other ephemra at the F+K bar awhile ago which kind of blew me away though. Thought it was freaking amazing. Can’t wait for that to come back in cans. Will buy at least 8 cans.

edit: not sure how I forgot about kicking and screaming. Also had a sample of gowanus gold that I instantly regretted not getting a 4 pack of.

I just had an Idyll Days from Ommegang (I was not even aware that they made a pilsner) and I have to say I was really surprised by how much I liked it. They’re a great brewery so maybe I shouldn’t be, but considering most of their beers are of the Belgian persuasion, they did a great job on this.

I agree with your review totally. I just thought it was a bit of a hoppy German-styled pils and like you, enjoyed it. But, Belgian yeast might explain how it poured. I poured it into a metal cup so I thought that may have had something to do with it but the head was pretty big for a pils. And, retained all the way to my last sip. Anyway, if I see it in the wild, which I haven’t (this can was a gift) I will pick more up.

@zid good call on Haus Pils. It’s fantastic. The peppery cracker is off the charts. Really snappy. Should have gotten the full 4-pack instead of just 2 cans.

In a case of extremely unusual restraint, I coincidentally had the last can from my 4 pack on the same day as your post. I also had a couple of Jack's Abby pilsners. I like Jack's Abby, but that Haus Pils was my favorite of the bunch.

Havent posted in here yet but I have been lurking - Just throwing out there that it would be awesome to keep this thread active for 2021 as a place to discuss non-Suarez NY lagers, since everything else seems to be very hazeboi-oriented.

I will add to the table that I think Evil Twin is doing great things with their oak foudre lagers and pils. They’ve been nailing that vanilla crispy cracker flavor on a bunch of them.

i have enjoyed Evil Twin lagers in the past, but it maddens me that they dont date them, just batch numbers (unless thats changed recently ), and i hate buying undated beer unless i know its a new release

Hm, I havent noticed that they don’t date them, but I guess I usually resort to using their Instagram to check when certain beers came out anyway. Lager shelf life seems to be pretty long as far as what I’ve read, but I’m sure it’s different with these new age dry hopped lagers.
I do understand your concern though - That terrible old/stale lager taste always takes me back to high school.

Totally missed this ping since I haven't really been using BA as much in the past like 9 months.

Think people have pretty much covered it, but for NYC proper Threes is definitely the king of Lager, Yore was one of my top 5 beers of last year.

Next I'd put Evil Twin NYC, their foudre lager series has been killer, particularly loved the Helles Bock and the Vienna lager.

Third I would put Grimm, I think they're a tad less consistently excellent than the first two but beers like Cross Stich are killer.

Honorable mentions would be Folksbier, Finback and KCBC.

Lots of love for evil twin. Glad they are accessible to me. Wish they had more then 1 beer at a particular time that I’m interested into make the stop worth it. Not really into the crazy sours at the moment.

In case anyone in this thread hasn’t heard about it, Threes anniversary lager Undone (Yore in oak foudre) is a must-pick up for any lager fan.

The newest Evil Twin pilsner is very good as well for fans of hoppy pilsners.

I’ve been trying to make an effort to try more of the variety of shelfies available as well. I thought Bell’s Lager of the Lakes was very solid and crisp, blew through the 6 pack quick. Sloop Pils, on the other hand, I wasn’t crazy about - gave me some of that heinekin-ish flavor and they were only a little over a month old.

Yes, the Threes anniversary (Undone) is spectacular. Got these all delivered on Friday. Much of it is gone...

This photo gets me every time. As much as I loved the Undone, I really liked the Other Ephemera. That one was new to me.

And What Might Have Been is my unofficial beer of the year for 2020. Love it so much.
