How was it? Did you review it? Would you recommend it? If so, why? If not, why not?

    Greetings, NBSers,
26F with an inch or so of snow on the ground in the city formerly known as Spokan Falls. No word as to whether this is the 1 inch of snow we were supposed to receive on Thursday or the 1-3 inches we were supposed to receive on Friday. Gotta love those weather witch doctors...

While waiting for the 'hawks to kick off, had myself an impy stout from Epic Brewing:

Mediocre, not very complex, but at least I've finally had a beer from Utah!

    New American Porter Sunday

My second new beer of the day was Duck Rabbit's Porter. im surprised I left this one sit on shelves for the 18 months that Ive lived here since I love porters. It looks like a great porter in the nonic glass with great head retention. The smell is slightly sweet, kind of makes me think its a milk porter if that makes sense. Nice light roasty presence without the upfront bitterness of Edmund Fitzgerald. More palatable and drinkable in that way. Finishes clean with a slight chewy roast at the end.

    New Dubbel Sunday

    Greetings NBSers.

Grey, cold, and rainy on this Sunday afternoon in So. IL. Good day to stay indoors and have a few beers while watching some football.

Realized this week that I had not reviewed this beer, Westmalle Trappist Dubbel, from the Beers of Fame list, so I picked it up. Really glad I did: a superb brew.

I poured two beers since my last post.
    My first was this:
For an American Brown, I really enjoyed it. There was the nuttiness that I love with browns, but the highlight was the creamy, smooth nature of the beer. It was sooo smooth and drinkable. It kind of reminded me of a nutty cappucino. Just bitter enough, yet still overly smooth and sweet. I like my English Browns to be dry and nutty and my American Browns like this, sweet creamy, and just drinkable. I like it.

Right now I have (for #999) I have Ommegang Abbey Ale (which is also number 97 on the Beers of Fame).
This is the best Dubbel from the US that Ive had. It has all of those dark sweet fruit flavors of a good Dubbel, but still has that same strong yeast presence to balance out the sweetness. Its a bit lighter bodied and less sweet than its Belgian counterparts, but thats ok. I wasnt expecting to hold up to the likes of Westy 8 (still the best IMHO), Rochefort 8, or Westmalle Dubbel, but its still a very, very good beer.

next is unique Untappd checkin #1000:slight_smile:

    _______/-------*NEW BIERE DE MARS SUNDAY*-------\________

    Howdy NBSers!
Sorry for my first post... I kina derailed the thread for a bit. In my defense, I mean come on!

Anyway... Crappy rainy day here in north central IL, but at least I got to stay in... To host a birthday party for my oldest-- his 5th birthday! So I started the day finishing a bottle of Pinot Noir after opening it and seeing only 1 guest try it and drink only one glass... Then I had to finish 1/3 of a bottle of Moscato because my wife "just can't finish a whole bottle..."

So now the party is over and I've grabbed a beer and my mandolin (pictured) and I'm settling in for a nice long session of new beers and bluegrass Xmas music.

My first beer of the day:
    Testudo by 2 Bros.
This a Biere De Mars... In a can?! Cool.

    Here's the review with backstory regarding the odd can;

I'd say this totally worth a try! A very pleasant surprise for an NBS'[/i]

    New English Barleywine

Happy NBS everyone! Like our host mattcrill I'm also here in Central OH, enjoying the rainy day/evening.

This is my only new beer of the day, just finished a bottle of Heavy Seas Cabernet barrel aged Below Decks barleywine: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/898/58430/?ba=bluejacket74

I had a bottle of the regular Below Decks barleywine before this, and I thought the Cabernet barrel aged one was a lot better.

    Cheers!

I see many 4-packs on the horizon.

    New Spruce Beer Sunday

Hit 80 degrees today in JAX, FL. Not very festive feeling. Drinking a holiday spruce ale helped a lot! I'm really enjoying this years version of Holla Ray spruced red ale from local Green Room Brewing. Last years batch was a bit over the top with spruce, but this year's is beautifully balanced. Hope it lasts a few more weeks!

    Cheers!

    New Double/Imperial IPA Sunday

    Greetings NBS -ers,

It was a damp, chilly day here in Southern, CT. The house is fully adorned for Christmas now and the chores are done. Looks like another active day here on NBS. A buddy of mine supplied me with this beer I cannot find in CT:

    This was pretty darn tasty.

Decent brew. Initially great as somebody who has the occasional sweet tooth. It does get a bit much by the end of the bottle.
