The last info I've been able to find about Sam Adams Utopias is from back in Oct 2020 when they filed for two labels to sell this year, one with cherries which sounds like it's definitely worth a try. Does anyone know around when they're expected to release? And how difficult is it to get them from places like Total Wine? Thanks!
Any and all Utopias are always worth a try. Although adding cherries seems stupid and very unnecessary (there’s plenty going on in those beers already!) But to answer your questions: -I have no clue about release date (but if anyone knows I too would be interested) -I have only ever seen Utopias available for purchase “on the shelf” once ever, it was behind the counter at a Total Wine in Daytona Beach of all places Granted, I’ve never monitored release dates and drove around town on those days trying to find them, so perhaps that could work. But historically they’ve been very tough to get, at least here in the south east.
I bought in '15 and '17 and I recall it was in November. TW here kept it behind the counter, and there was no rush to get it. I would talk to the manager when you get wind of it hitting stores and have them hold what you want. I paid $199 plus tax both times. I have heard of more and less. The taste is unique. I may spring again this year. Stimulus money, you know.
I don’t know the overall release schedule, But I see one of my local sf Bay Area stores just advertised a Utopias drop 10 minutes ago, so it must be that season.
Release date for 2021...11 October 2020 This is Utopias 2021 and you're looking at the 24oz Ceramarte Brazil Decanter. This version will roll in between 28%-AbV & 30%-AbV (both labels approved) and one variant is brewed with maple syrup and with cherries added--28% and the other variant leaves out the cherries--30%).Oct 11, 2020 Google and I are like that. I saw that another previous batch came out in a November date.
Their beer finder lists about 15 beers to choose from and utopias is one of them. Doesn't seem to pull up any hits anywhere though
October 2020 appears to be the date the labels were submitted by BBC and the TTB approved the COLA for those 4 2021 Utopias (2 bottles, 2 kegs). That website usually just reprints the labels from the TTB COLA site and often has no additional information from the brewery.
Also, it looks like historically this beer has been released in mid Oct to Mid Nov, usually on odd years. And as expected it’s typically been accompanied by statements about the release from the brewery. My guess is this doesn’t hit distro until Oct 2021 unless I am really missing something here (which wouldn’t be the first time).
Ah yeah, from what I can tell it seems we'll be waiting until at least Oct this year for the release. Good thing I have other things to drink until then!
Well 1/6 of a barrel, anyway. Don't quote me on this, but I believe the Boston Beer Co. has linked up with GMAC for a "0% APR for 84 months for qualified buyers" deal to allow folks to purchase them, but you better have an excellent FICO score (and, apparently, they will not consider one's beer cellar as collateral! )
My god I think I would drink myself to death with that on tap at home. Home being a cardboard box after paying for the keg and divorce attorney fees.
If I sell my car, and several of my neighbors' cars, I can get the keg. And I'll save money long-term without car maintenance and gas. It would be irresponsible for me to NOT do this.
The 2019 bottle I bought didn't impress me as much as previous editions. I'll have to take another sip today to remember why.
