Tonight's Beer Tasting Lineup (Mostly Bells Brewing):

    1) Summit Dakota Soul: A Czech-style Pilsner that is made with North Dakota barley for a fantastic bready and honeyflower finish.

    2) Cerveza Pacifico Clara: A Mexican Lager with bready hops and near sourdough yeast flavor. Incredibly drinkable.

    3) Bells' Robust Porter: A Bells porter with mild chocolate, but moderate bread & cream flavors. Malty, yet finishes smooth, dry, and clean.

    4) Bell's Kalamazoo Stout: Another Bells beer with stronger chocolate and roast flavors. More roasty, woodsy, and bitter.

    5) The Hopslam Ale: A final Bells offering that is a Double IPA at 10% ABV: It has strong malt flavors with some vague citrus & tropical flavors in the middle, only to finish with a candied and honey malt sweetness. Big, rich, and sweet.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Winners:

    1) Dakota Soul: A fantastic version of a Czech-style pilsner. The flavors here work well together with a nice honeyflower hop bite to it to keep it interesting

    4) Bells Kalamazoo Stout: Compared to the Robust Porter, this is the better beer. It is stronger and there is more here. It has a nice balance of rich chocolate and coffee roast.

    Losers:

    3) Bells' Robust Porter: This one is just too light and doesn't have enough going for it. Not a bad beer, but compared to Kalamazoo and it's neighbor, the Founder's IPA, this one is too simple and underwhelming.

    6) Hopslam: Not sure what the light is here that has this as a World-Class (99) rating on BeerAdvocate, but DIPAs don't do it for me. Too much malt overshadows the hops. The aroma and flavor are both underwhelming.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Agree/Disagree with the ratings? Have you had Bells Porter or Kalamazoo Stout and how do you think they compare? Have you had Hopslam, and did you find it tasteful or overrated?

I seem to have a problem with my Chrome browser making the reply box all wonky with emojis making a big vertical line and no way to type a reply. Bet it was that Win update today or I will check to see if the mobile browser on my phone is still logged in and borking it .

Anyway, tonight's aperitif is just a reverse of last night.

A year ago today, I was having fun traveling and visiting friends and family out West. If you would have told me during the next year I would:
    • Have my first Pliny the Younger (PtE still reigns supreme)
    • Attend no other beer fests after Leap Year Day
    • Travel one time beyond a 10 mile radius of my house upon my return March 10th
    • Approach a year of DIY haircuts
I would have laughed in your face.

Hopefully we all gained a greater appreciation and gratitude for all good things, big or small.

Tonight is a night for something different and untried. I chose Hazy Daisy from Axemann Brewery in Bellefonte, PA. A NE IPA with plenty of haze ad lots of flavour.

Found an authorized retailer for Oboz footwear two miles from my house. :astonished: They answered my FB inquiry within twenty minutes and we’re off to the races with new hiking boots. Boom, done, simple.

Movie time. Roman Bourbon barrel aged Imperial Stout from Wellington Brewery in Guelph, Ontario. Nothing else added. Neat, clean and simple, just like ordering the boots. Cheers. [IMG]
