Should I open my DBBCBS or age it some more?

Was planning on cracking it open to celebrate but I was wondering how it's drinking now. Still too hot or drinking great?

Have you had it before this bottle or is your only bottle and you cellared it right out the gate?

I'd say open it and find out for yourself. What's eventually going to bring you to open it?

Yeah, this is my only bottle. I figured I'd ask and see what people thought who have been opening them. I looked on untapped as well but it seemed 50/50 as to what people thought.

I like my Imperial Stouts "hot" so I would have drunk it fresh. It should be cooled down by now so drink it.

I’m against cellaring unless you have multiple bottles and believe the first should be drank within a reasonable amount of time from getting the beer. While many beers can be aged, I want to experience it fresh.

I'm usually the same way but wanted to save this one for a special occasion.

I had it a few months ago, was drinking great. Wasn't too hot either imo, so better to drink now than later.

Like @MattOC said, if you've never had it drink it as fresh as possible. Ive been caught in the trap of "saving for a special occasion" then i saw my beer cellar double within a year or so. Of course there are special occasion brews, but the criteria on beers worthy of this tag has changed over the years.

It's cliche, but the special occasion is the beer itself. If you keep on waiting and waiting for the right, special occasion, you'll never open it.

i'm finding myself falling into the same "special occasion" trap. I'm running out of space in my small excuse for a cellar because there are no special occasions during this pandemic and no friends coming over to share beer with.

Pop it for yourself. You made it through another day. I find great joy in slowly enjoying a "special" bottle even if it happens to be on a Tuesday or whatever. You bought it to drink.

My close friends and I would save up all our special bottles for our monthly, quarterly shares. Then this happened and it all went out the window. With no timeframe for those to occur again, there are no hard feelings just to drink these bottles on our own. Bottles will come and go.

I ended up popping it open. It was quite enjoyable. There was a little heat but it was good and blended well with the other flavors.

I have a related question or two for this thread. Are there any beers that you NEED to cellar before drinking? [My guess is no, but....] AND, are there types of beers that you absolutely shouldn't cellar?

I was told i need to cellar Dark Lord, not sure how true that is since i only have the one bottle, and as i mentioned earlier in the thread i've been saving it (and other beers) to share with friends so it's been unintentionally cellared.
I'm no expert, but from what i hear beers with lots of adjuncts, particularly coffee, dont cellar well since those flavors will fade or become off.

You shouldn't intentionally age the vast majority of beers. Anything that is hop driven, moderate abv or lower, light bodied, heavily flavored beers, and really any "normal" beer is gonna be best fresh.

As far as beers that NEED to be cellared, I don't know that they really exist except as a matter of personal taste. For example, lots of people only enjoy bigfoot after some years have taken off the hop bite or some ba stouts are very boozy hot when fresh and that can subside with some time in the bottle.
