i’ve actually been wondering if they’ll ever get into oak-aging any of their lagers in the future. something tells me that would be so good. i know all of their oak vessels are probably dedicated for sour / strong ales but it would be a fun experiment.

I'd love this! I enjoy their lagers, but for me they don't really stand up to the best STL has to offer, and I think putting some oak funk on them could help them a lot.

Oak aging doesn’t make lagers funky. It’s for conditioning and Brett isn’t being added to it like a farmhouse/saison.

yeah, i meant clean beer still but a little oak lagering. could be a fun twist.

I knew what you were referring to. I enjoy oak lagering, specially Hill’s, Three’s, etc. I was replying to Seamus who wrote “putting some oak funk on them”, which isn’t how it works.

What specific lagers or Pilsners are are better in your opinion? I prefer the recent Shared offerings to anything I’ve had at urban chestnut, 2nd shift, perennial, narrow gauge, or 4 hands, but I admit I haven’t tried it all. Always happy to hear new recommendations.

-2nd Shift Technical Ecstasy and Todd Man Out are fantastic
    - Civil Life beers in particular are amazing (too many to list). What they do with different malts alone blows my mind
    - Urban Chesnut Stammtisch, Zwickel are fantastic examples of style and their Oktoberfest may be the best in the area each year

I'm not saying Shared lagers arent as good, but casting all other area lager beers off as inferior is folly. Especially when others may be half the cost. Just my 2 cents while sipping on an amazing SP Saison.

I didn't mean brett-type funk, just that oak aging adds, well, oakiness, which to me comes off as somewhat funky even in clean beers.

Oh, I prefer Urban Chestnut's flagships, Technical Ecstasy, and Perennial's pils to any of Shared's lagers. Regardless, it's just fantastic to have so many great lagers in town.

Interesting. Thanks for expanding. Guess I’ll think about it next time I have one, but I’ve never experienced that.

I bet SP could brew a pretty damn good Marzen and actually age it the old fashioned way. I would assume by now Cory could get access to some St. Louis caves.

Thanks for the tips fellows. I will add NG Frisches Bier and 2nd Shift Todd Man out to the list of beers to try that I haven't gotten to yet.

It's always nice to hear about good lager recs since you can't trust Untappd with lager ratings. It's one of those styles that won't surpass 4.1 in ratings, regardless if it's the perfect representation of the style.

Has anyone heard any recent news about La Coterie invites? There were a couple posts several weeks ago, but I haven’t heard anything since. Website says that the 2021 membership begins in March, so I would think that invites would go out soon if there are any openings.

I realistically wouldn’t get hopes up. It sounds like they’re just going to replace anybody that doesn’t renew/was kicked out, not really adding anybody.

Why then would they publicly make a big deal out of getting people to be added to the waitlist then? What am I missing?
