Looks like a different abv than Glissade, which was 6.4%. But I definitely would buy this regardless

    From the link:

“This is Pale Bock Malt Liquor and it will bang in at 6.8%-AbV.”

Rather ‘interesting’ that this beer is being marketed as a “Malt Liquor”. I suppose to advertise the alcohol strength of this beer?

Since it seems to be popular for beer consumers to associate the terminology of “Malt Liquor” with beverages like Colt 45, Old English 800, King Cobra and often within the context of large bottle formats (e.g., 40 ounce bottles) I wonder if using the “Malt Liquor” branding with this new beer from Sierra Nevada is such a good idea?

    Cheers!

I was wondering the same thing.
Why are they marketing this as “malt liquor”? Is there something in the ingredients that precludes selling it as beer?

Nah, beer is a malt liquor but in the US beer industry they have used the specific branding of "Malt Liquor" for those beers which are stronger in alcohol (e.g., > 6% ABV - products like Colt 45). It is indeed true that SN Pale Bock at 6.8% ABV is a stronger beer but since most folks associate the branding of "Malt Liquor" with a beer like Colt 45 it is just a strange marketing concept for Sierra Nevada here IMO.

    Cheers!

Given the definition of “pale bock” and “malt liquor” could American malt liquor like Mickeys and Colt 45 be technically considered “American style-pale bock” lol.

is Steel Reserve or 211 as the hood calls it considered a pale bock? Or Helles bock? It is above the % guideline but follows the definition At 8%. I’m going to start calling it a Helles bock to confuse myself and others lmao

Dunno -- the article says new can from Chico and Mills River. Sort of sounds like a new release.

Don't go by the old description on the website, probably not updated.

Sorry to get everyone's hopes up if this indeed a territorial release. Fingers crossed.

Nowadays breweries are calling/branding their beers in all kinds of 'weird' ways. There was/is a recent thread where a West Coast brewery is branding their IPL as a "Cold IPA".

I suppose the macros could re-brand their "Malt Liquor" beers as a "Pale Bock" if they choose to? In today's beer scene it seems that anything goes!?!

    Cheers!

Liebmann brewed the seasonal Rheingold Pale Bock into the 1950s (after which it appears they went with a typical darker US style bock but did advertise that their Bock met the German standard of having an OG not lower than 16%).
