Wasn't that stopped a while back? I know it still lingers on some labels, but I don't think it's a requirement anymore. I think Texas was the last state to have the "law," and they've stopped.

Sierra Nevada very rarely misses. I'll be giving this a shot if I see it.

No, the early 2000s. Unless I'm misunderstanding the link in your previous post of the BA listing, it says the photo was uploaded 2003 where the label says Malt Liquor.

I really don't think that was on the earlier labels; it would have stood out to me even then.

    You're right -- I hadn't noticed that before.
I sure don't remember it from back then, I wonder if it connects to @EmperorBatman 's observation of the old labeling law and SN was having some fun?

    Once again, @SierraTerence

Yeah, a couple of states had such laws (but not the Feds); CA and TX, being huge markets were probably the reasons some brewers and importers chose that labeling language rather than the more costly choice of separate labels for different states.
Imports over 5% ABV (4% ABW) tended to use "malt liquor" but, I guess because of the negative reputation that that term has acquired, US brewers used the infamous "Ale in Texas" ( huh?) for their lager beers over 5%.
Previous to the early 1970s, North Carolina (and, according to some sources, Virginia) had labeling laws that prohibited the use of the term "malt liquor". I guess because they defined "liquor" as only distilled spirits? So the major malt liquor brands were labeled by the kinda redundant terminology shown below.

As I understand it, technically still on the books, but a judge's ruling currently has the rule in limbo?

I had more than one European supplier that complained that "America is like 50 countries". So I guess they finally put together a formula taking into account state by state variations and peculiarities and came up with a uniform all-inclusive label design.

A springtime seasonal in <gasp> April, May and early June. Imagine that! Here I thought spring started in January . Well, if these months hold true perhaps it's a possibility this beer sees 2021 after all.

They were using the Black's Law Dictionary definition, from the 19th century:

Well, he was just paraphrasing, he obviously meant:
"... it works every time (as the correct term, whether you're talking about lager beer, ale, porter or stout)."

That piece of the past indicates to me that Black's Law Dictionary was once a most useful lawyerly tool...Good information never gets old, now that JK takes us time-traveling....

Will try I guess...personally, I miss Glissade and wish they would at least bring it back in a mixed pack...if I had my way, the Vienna Lager would be their spring seasonal.. I would buy that beer by the pallet...

One could even say that Sierra Nevada is lager deficient. WTF SN?

I should add that I’m disappointed that this beer is going to be sold in 16oz cans. If I’m right about this being the 2022 spring seasonal, then I’ll assume that this might be the standard for seasonals going forward. I could be totally wrong of course.
