I was at the HB taproom today and decided I'd just ask about Beach Retreat while I was there. The taproom manager (Kyle, if I'm remembering correctly) confirmed it would see normal distro and I would suspect it will be a similar amount as last time.

BW/PP collab Beach Retreat v2 comes out today. Unlike PP/BW’s v1 this one is $14 for a 4pk instead of a 6pk. Quality over quantity?

I wondered the same thing. Lots of factors could have been at play here: maybe they decided to move to 4PKs for the series going forward for personal reasons, aluminum shortages forced them to that pack size, expense on this one was higher so they shrunk to a 4PK, etc.

Well you could find out later tonight. Julian will be going live in his IG live post in less than 5 hours. Good time to ask him why they went with 4pk this time. PP might be there too. I’ve never seen a 6pk put out by BW, besides their 12oz offerings.

Isn't it that the last batch was brewed at and distributed by PP, which does six-packs, and this batch was brewed at and distributed by Beachwood, which does four-packs?

I think this is the right answer. You gotta figure that there are different cost structures for each brewery that directly relates to the retail pricing. Regardless, the beer should be great and easily accessible here in SoCal.

I asked this on the Instagram live stream and this was basically the answer Julian gave.

Sort of tangential to Beachwood, but does any other craft brewery do 16oz 6-packs besides Pizza Port? Seems like usually 16oz is 4-packs and 12oz is 6-packs

I saw you as you asked. Figured it wasn’t Gunz as I saw no abbreviations.

Brewery X is about the only one off the top of my head. They target similar price points as PP but don't have nearly as good of a product.

Didn’t their owner or head brewer come from PP too? Probably some influence there.

Jack’s Abby has done them on the east coast for a while, but recently changed over to 4 packs (because on crowded shelves, they were displayed the narrow way with 2 cans showing, and consumers couldn’t tell they would be getting 6 cans rather than 4). A quick google search seems to indicate some macros are packaged in the 6 pack,16 oz format, but I never look at these in the store, so I couldn’t say.

@562Brew @dcgunman He was a brewer with PP before his short stint @ Riip.

I knew of PP but not the Bruery. I was going to RiiP when he was at RiiP. Yes it was short but sweet at RiiP. I believe he won a medal or 2 with his recipes from brewing at RiiP. Not going into any details about his leaving RiiP so quickly. We know Ian is doing just fine for RiiPs head brewer. And we know Ian was Beachwood Brewing for many years before joining the Ryan& Ryan team of RiiP. Again, many medals coming out of RiiP for their outstanding beers. Getting back to Beachwood, has anyone tried the newest Beach Retreat? Today is Beer run Friday. So I’ll be picking some up later today. Hopefully along with some DDH Elder. Long live west coast.

Going to see if I can make it to Beachwood HB at some point this weekend to pick up a 4-pack. If you open one up today, let us know what you think.
