Not breaking any news here, just noting how much I missed this fest last year. With multiple vaccines shaping up to be available to anyone who wants them (21 y/o or older, at least) months prior, is it too optimistic to plan to be back at the UIC Forum enjoying world class BA beer with hints of neckbeard flatulence this November?

Are you speculating or do you have inside info? If the latter we're all ears. Hell for that matter, even if just speculation I'm interested in your rationale.

It may not be practical given the fundamental nature of how long beer needs to be in barrels along with planning/logistics, but I would love to see the festival to move outside for 2021. Even if that means moving it up a month or two. Again, that may not be feasible but it’s far easier for me to envision a more spacious outdoor beer festival than Fobab as we know it.

I think it means he digs the smell of said “neck beard flatulence.”

See, I WOULD hold my breath. (at the fest, that is)

As for a large gathering where people are eating and drinking:
that's a HELL NO for me until maybe 2022.

I am very happy to continue my antiseptic/masked/distanced/disinfected sharing with neighbors @tiffman and Casey. It's a little lonely, but we're keeping ourselves and our families healthy.

Until COVID cases are SIGNIFICANTLY lower in America. I'm talking like less than 1000 cases a day across the whole country having any kind of festival especially one where people are sipping and sharing glasses of beer it is an incredible risk and liability. I'm not sure that'll happen before they have to start getting the ball rolling on FoBAB.

I park by your subdivision's clubhouse now and then to crack open a bottle and wish we were inside sharing again.

I very badly missed FOBAB in person last year but I was reasonably happy with the alternative they had (the random bottles). I unfortunately don't think an in-person (especially crowded indoors) even will happen this year, so I hope they at least do something similar this year. It's a consolation prize for sure, but especially if you're lucky to have like-minded neighbors, it's ok enough.

Not that it didn’t sell out quickly, but interest will be way up this year after seeing what was in the mix 6’s

I would be happy to attend in November. 13% of population is already vaccinated. Let's get back to some fests guys.

Latest polls I saw said a third of Americans won’t or probably won’t get the vaccine when offered, and Fauci believes at least 70% of population needs to get it for heard immunity to occur. Those numbers right there don't leave me very optimistic.

As much I’d like life to return to normal, I think we’re still a year plus away from larger beer events

You certainly could be right about that. Whether or not the financials make sense, I don’t see why a very spacious outdoor fest would necessarily be a real problem from a COVID perspective. But, would breweries really travel from out of town to pour at them? I think interest could be limited from a non local brewery perspective.

If they can sell the tickets, which I believe they can, have the event. Let people vote with their money. I am in the camp of returning to events. People can stay home if they want.

I'm fully vaccinated (3 weeks today), and I'm not sure I'd be going to an indoor festival of any kind anytime soon. Yes, my family is probably about as low risk as you can get during this now. Their grandparents will all be vaccinated fully by the end of March. But still, there are a lot of moving pieces here. I get exposed, one of the multiple schools I work in can get shut down. The school my wife works in could get shut down, or at least parts of them. The kids I'm required to work in close contact with for extended periods because of the nature of my job - maybe their family has to quarantine now. Our kids daycare could get shut down. Our school-aged kids classrooms and after school programming, etc. Although it's great that likely the risk for me has mostly passed, this isn't just about me and my family. A lot of other people's livelihoods are intertwined with ours. Besides, I can drink BA beers and smell plenty of farts in my own house any time I want.

Steps off soapbox. Sips Dun Dun Dun. Yeah, this batch is pretty damn underwhelming.

Just because they can sell the tickets doesn’t mean they should. It’s been well documented that many people make dumb decisions when confronted with choices around a pandemic (even the most stable of geniuses). As others have pointed out, we’re part of a society where our actions have consequences on many others and the organizers of these events have to realize that (and I’m pretty sure they do for the most part).

But I also think there are ways to begin down the path of having some events, as Goose is doing next month. It’s going to be interesting to see how that goes and what it leads to in terms of other events.

It's nice that you assume the organizers feel the same as you. I can promise you that they don't. So maybe you should host your own festival for everyone who is a complete dumbass such as yourself.
