For even a few dollars more, you can get the new Toppling Goliath & BlackStack collab:

Rushed out to get this. This beer sucks. I would encourage everyone to post where they find it so we can avoid any store that stocks this garbage.

Seriously don't see the point of a 10% IPA, less you want to get drunk.

After 15 years of craft beer, I want lower ABV beers that taste great, not even higher ones.

Huh? Same could be said then about all hard spirits and wine and stouts and barleywines and meads and ... If you’re drinking a higher ABV anything you’ll get drunk faster #science. Not sure what your point is?

I agree. I'll buy Hopslam each year for nostalgia (and because it's a real nice beer), but a 10% IPA used to be a novelty. Seems like so many of the new releases are 8% or more, and I've lost interest. More for everyone else.

We don’t have some obligation to drink x number of IPAs a night. If I’m drinking two 6% IPAs or one 10% IPA I can self regulate - and they’re printed right there on the can. Not sure creeping ABVs is anyone’s issue but mine to self moderate. Do you guys have like a set IPA / night mandate and these higher ABVs are messing you up outside of your control?? Someone force pouring Hopslams / Black Stacks into you?

Just like I don’t take down a 4pack of CBS / night I don’t take down a 4pack of 10% IPAs. Weird issue to be focused on.

So wait, you’re saying I can just drink one 10% IPA at a time? Or that some people maybe even prefer bigger IPAs? Come on, man. That can’t be right.

Oh, it’s true. You get to control how many of what at whatever ABV you want whenever you want. So if a brewer makes a 10% ABV IPA it’s not an obligation to drink the full 4 pack and get drunk - incredible, I know.

I still enjoy the taste of beer (and certain hops). But I can tell as I get older, the alcohol really does affect you more and, even a single IPA crowler, I swear I can feel it for a day or more. I rarely drink anything on weeknights now and will really think twice or three times before buying ANYTHING greater than 8%. The point is that IPAs don't need to be 10% ABV, so why?

Because we’re under 90 and sometimes they taste really good in moderation??? Same thing with stouts and any higher ABV beers. We don’t need to litigate preferences - it’s like arguing DaVinci is shit but Pollack is a genius. This beer is really tremendous and I had one of them tonight and then a Mocha Noir and I avoided driving, kicking my dog, losing my job and beating my kids. All while consuming 10% ABV beers ...

What does taste have to do with alcohol content?

What does your preference for low ABV beers have to do with what anyone else enjoys?

Nothing and I have no concern with what anyone else enjoys and never said anything to that end.

I love the 8%-10%+ ABV stuff from BlackStack, but I realize it's not for everyone. My non-BA friends keep me in check when I recommend the heavy hitters to them and it is a bit more than they are used to. Of course, we are all old enough to be protected by the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (age 40; look it up my fellow geriatrics!).

Fortunately, we are blessed with an abundance of great IPAs at lower or higher ABVs, so there's something on the shelf for everyone.

Also: this Jurassic Park is indeed fantastic.

Thoroughly enjoyed Microdosing Simcoe last week. Looks like I missed out on Jurassic Park, but would be happy to pick up another 4 pack of Microdosing Simcoe.

side note: I bought Modist/Dangerous Man IPA collab today to called Apiary Drip and don’t like it at all. Once again Modist lets me down and reinforces my opinion that black stack is usually a safe bet for good local IPA’s

I agree w your read on Modist VS Black Stack. I’m always tempted by the shiny new Modist IPA and almost always let down too. Bummer - thanks for the heads up on the skip. $17-20 mistakes on 4pks sucks lately.
