I'm just glad the package made it there safely. I sent three boxes out on 2/17, all USPS medium flat rates and their "1-3 business day delivery". First box made it to @Roguer in 2 days, arriving on the 19th. Your box finally made it yesterday after 10 days. The third box (headed to somebody else who is participating in this BIF but doesn't know it's coming) is still in the wind with the same generic "your package is in transit to the next facility" message it has been showing for over a week.

Hard to beat the USPS price when you're shipping cross-country, but it is definitely the most stressful carrier to use. We'll see if the aforementioned third box ever arrives, and if so, what kind of shape it's in.

In any event, enjoy the beer, and sorry for taking up more of your fridge space! The good news is that none of these beers is particularly heavy, so with any luck you'll be able to knock them out relatively easily. Enjoy!

@Roy_Hobbs is serious about his stealth strikes. Another killer hit by him!
A few weeks ago I was tasked with shipping some beer to friends to surprise one of our buddies on his 40th birthday. We wanted to be able to toast him on a Zoom call while all drinking the same beer. Anyway, I sent out a total of five boxes: two to Cali, one to Nashville, one to NYC, and one to Cleveland. They all made it within a couple days via USPS except for the box that went to Cleveland. That one took an extra week and arrived the morning after the Zoom call. Incredible that the one box I could have dropped off by taking a two hour drive is the one that was significantly delayed.

Unreal attack by @Roy_Hobbs ; welcome to the BIF, @Xul ! :grinning:

Drink that Pe'a soon. Mine was not the slightest bit stale (and it was very good!), but after the box took two weeks to reach you, cross country ... everything else should hold up well, I would think.

I'll second that recommendation. Pe'a was brewed mid-December, so pushing the freshness envelope for sure.

Unrelated, but @Roguer saw the news in your NBW post re: moving back to CT. Good stuff!

Very excited! We have a virtual tour of a Salem home this afternoon. :grinning:

Not the one within walking distance of Fox Farm; it's on the other side of 82, pretty much right in between Fox Farm and the Dinosaur Place (which anyone who's ever driven from SE CT to Hartford definitely would recognize  ).

Awesome ninja box, Ross! The best part is I'd just sent him some Suarez as well, which should have landed at the same time as your box but it took an extra day and just got there. We somehow managed to only overlap on one can, Cabana Pils, and I don't think anyone can complain about having too much Suarez lager. Excellent work.

At this rate, not only am I never going to catch up, the problem is only going to get worse. The FedEx delivery driver dropped a box on my porch this morning, courtesy of @Dimidiata, with some Suarez and Sante Adairius deliciousness. Thanks so much for the cans and bottles, even if it's only exacerbating a situation that's quickly spiraling out of control! I'm mighty curious to see what a beer brewed with 1000 pounds of dog hair tastes like.

However, the real MVP is her golden retriever, who thoughtfully curated a rock from her yard and dropped it in the box. My gratitude for both his effort in selecting such a fine piece of mineral matter, and sending me something that's not beer, is immeasurable. I can only hope that he approves of the rock I send back up as thank you.

You also get some blind tasting practice. It's probably not a stout.

Not sure if it was a NBS BIF or another BIF that I participated in, but when Presto was younger, he pulled a bubble wrapped beer glass off my table while I wasn't in the room. It was supposed to be going in a box I was about to ship as merch. I think it was a Pliny For President glass. It broke when it hit the floor and I walked back in the room to find him chewing on bubble wrap that was full of glass shards. I'm just thankful he's taken to chewing on rocks nowadays. He was quite annoyed to have lost his rock in that box of beer, but it was too late to save it! Good thing he's cute, because he's not real bright.

If your golden is "not too bright," then you can only imagine what I'm dealing with, with my Husky. :grinning:

(He's currently quite proud of all the dirt on his tongue, because he is a mighty hunter of insects.)

@WunderLlama has launched a retaliatory strike in response to my ninja box ... this unabated escalation is how full on wars start @WunderLlama ...

It pains me to say it, but with working on saving for a house and some other increased costs I think I have to sit out this round. Past 12 rounds have awesome, I will still follow the thread and probably send a ninja 4-pack or two.

I know, I was hoping that I could do it, but I will drop my usual porch bombs in round 14!

This is a little off-topic, but it has to do with the weekly NBW(S) thread. I just read through the many comments this morning, and was unable to chime in because the thread had been closed. At any rate, most everyone here is also active there, so I thought I'd throw out a few thoughts . . .

For me, expanding the thread to the weekend has been great, as I rarely drink on Sundays for a number of reasons. The difference between saving a beer for one of two days rather than saving it for one seems immaterial; I'm not sure I buy that as a reason to be upset.

As for reduced traffic since the holidays, I have a few thoughts. Even though some people don't advertise it, a lot of folks either do dry January or are trying to cut down on their drinking due to new year's resolutions. Currently, I've given up beer for Lent, which, again, is something people might not necessarily broadcast.

But, honestly, some of us are just tired of sitting in front of the fucking computer. Between Zoom work meetings, online classes, family visits, and socializing, I've just about had it. I think it was The Washington Post that recently had an article on people reporting they'd hit their "pandemic wall" in January, and I count myself among them. Love you guys, and NBW, and this BIF, but when I have the choice to step away from this computer, I'm doing so more and more often.

"This is an important conversation, Im glad we're having it ..." @Roguer (sorry, Lebatard Show joke ... not sure anyone else will get that)

In all seriousness though, I am personally glad that NBW is Saturday/Sunday and not just Sunday because it does allow for more flexibility in actually getting to some beers over the weekend. My life is insanely busy these days - so having that flexibility to jump on at some point over the weekend and catch up on the thread as well as review some beers is great.

As for the feel of the thread, I'm not going to comment on that. I've only been actively participating in the thread for about a year, year and half at this point, I think? I enjoy it, but it does seem like there is less banter/interacting around the actual beer reviews ... but honestly thats just a personal impression. I have no way of knowing whether or not its true.

    Introducing . . . the Joe 6-Pack LIF.

Joe was my grandpa's name, and this LIF is in honor of him. He was a WWII vet (with Purple Heart), BF Goodrich tire salesman, and overall great guy. The winner of this LIF will receive a "six-pack" of beer, about whose contents I will neither say anything nor answer any questions. Just six beers, plus the opportunity for a bonus prize (see below).

To win this LIF, you must correctly answer all three of the following questions. You must also be a confirmed participant in NBS BIF #13. In response to every guess, I will let you know how many you've gotten right, but not necessarily which ones (although I might in later stages, if this stretches on too long). Everyone gets up to three guesses (remember, all three answers must be included in a guess), with no more than one guess per day. You can spread them out if you'd like, waiting to see my answers to other guesses.

    1. What was Joe's favorite beer?
    2. What was Joe's favorite hard liquor (brand, please, not just type)?
    3. What was Joe's favorite non-alcoholic drink?

TO BE CLEAR: Each guess must contain all three answers.

BONUS: The last question, below, can only be answered in combination with the above questions for a bonus prize. You can win the LIF without answering this question, but you can't win the bonus prize on its own.

One of Joe's tire accounts gave him a bottle of liqueur every year for Christmas. He never drank it (so it's not the answer to question #2), and at his passing we found over twenty bottles of this liqueur stashed in his garage, which we distributed among relatives. If you can guess this liqueur, you will also receive a (brand-new) bottle of this liqueur.

You can't ask for hints, but I may end up giving some out, depending, again, on how long this one takes. And feel free to tag anyone you think might not see this on their own . . .
