I found the sight when I started looking for information on beers on the internet. I noticed that the Beer Advocate ratings largely agreed with my own assessment of beers. I lurked for some time but then joined in 2013.

I have consistently enjoyed the easy comradery of the site and use the ratings as a guide. I also use my own content as a loose chronicle my travels and life events, in which I often include beer.

I will stay because I enjoy participating and I am really enjoying the new virtual beer fest that allow me to try new beers and interact with the larger beer community as never before. (Thanks Todd!)

It's when you think of it in terms of other hobbies that you realize how many great things are combined here in one place for beer lovers.

Screw that guy, report him. Lord knows I've stepped on some toes here, but I've never just sent a message calling them names. If you still have the message, report it!

I came to BA as a lapsed "wine guy" who rediscovered the joys of good beer back in 2013.
I stay because of the camaraderie, the shared stories, the "flattening" of differences between us during polarized times. Have I made some gauche mistakes? Sure, I'm human.

Happy to pull up at the virtual beer nearly every day now, for what 5.5 years?
    Cheers!

Haha, come on Dale, we're old timers that are NEVER gonna outlast BA!! Between our semi-petrified livers & age, BA will shirley be around longer than us:stuck_out_tongue:!!! But no matter what, it's a fun site & I'll continue w/ it for awhile longer:wink:....

OR are we of the mindset that 60 is the new 40 in the beer world? If so, that works too:grin:!
    Cheers old friend!

I found an old edition of the magazine this weekend when cleaning out my desk, and ended up sitting and reading it for a bit. Gotta say, I completely agree about missing it ...

I was horrified when there was talk of bailing on the Places menu. Very essential for travel or places like here with miles to go on the beer front

Beer & Politics a potent mixture, but does alienate a lot of people. I am from the opposite spectrum politics-wise. I rarely brought it in here because I just thought anyone wanting an opinion from either side has tons of options. I do feel the BLM thread was relevant and worth a visit. I don't feel like I've changed that much in my beliefs, but I am some times learning from these political intrusions from time to time.

I will say on occasion I've seen people get stupid on a difference of opinion & I can tell it just that person is sozzled ( always a dude ). Most are worth a second chance

I joined for the resource aspect & still use the hell out of it. I certainly feel like I have contributed plenty ( still so many dead spots for beer information ) and wish more would.

Community is great, always thrilled to meet a BA in person.

The virtual bar is certainly my jam. I am always thrilled when a prodigal Son or Daughter returns to the fold.

Likewise I have learned sooo much about other topics that I realize I am not as smart as I think I am some times

I agree about the mag as well. Still have all the copies in the closet. Might have to dig em out actually. Loved the food part of it too.

Yup. The mag being free at some local breweries is how I learned about the website.
