    Hi NBW
    New to me from @Blogjackets

    Fat Head's Head Hunter

This beer is so crisp and clean you can read through it

poured from a can dated 2/22

Appearance is crystal clear copper/amber thick fluffy head that reduces to a thin veil light lacing

You can smell the fruit aroma as it's poured, pineapple, mango, citrus and a hint of pine

Taste is full, hoppy and fruity as the nose, notes of pine and floral

mouthfeel is big, medium carbonation, it runs prickly to astringent to a dry finish that hangs on in your throat,

Overall this is a crisp clean refreshing beer, not a sipper

    Nice pallet cleanser

I wish we had access to Fat Head's around these parts. Thanks Dave!

Afternoon NBW. Looks like some great stuff so far this weekend so I will pop open another new one for Sunday. Ive got my Puerco Pibil in the oven and those wonderful aromatic peppers and spices are filling the house. @LarryV I used a half of the dried Moruga Scorpion pepper I gave you and its smokin..
Todays beer is Proclamation's (full name) The Mystical Resurrection of The Alpaca Magi. Wild ale fermented in oak and bourbon barrels with Raspberries, blackberries and Merlot grapes....and breathe...
Pours a hazy ruby red with yellow to brown edges with a short lived rose colored head that retreats to a thin ring. Nice columns of champagne like bubbles rise continuously.
Aroma is a funky yeast, red wine, dark berries, green apple, oak. No sign of bourbon.
Taste follows with tart berry and apple, vinous red grape, a little oak tannin, mild funk, slightly bitter grape stem. Hmm looking for something else but not really finding it. Not getting any bourbon.
Feel is medium/light , tannic, drying, tart, crisp. Flavor (thin)fades on the palate to green stems again.
Would love to say this is great because I love Proclamation but seems to be missing something. This is something like the the third or fourth iteration of this beer and its quite popular. I really dig a few of their wine barrel aged sours so with the addition of grapes with this one it makes me wonder if WB aging would have added some depth to this. Honestly I got nothing in the way of bourbon barrel. Anyhow not bad I just expected more. Maybe I should have aged it a bit. Might buy another to try that. Be curious to hear the thoughts of anyone else thats had this. Cheers!

[IMG] West LA Beer Company Triplopia. Pours a hazy yellow orange with a finger plus sticky white head that leaves thick streaks of lace with excellent retention. 4.5

Aroma peach, mango, passionfruit, clove, orange rind, and grapefruit. 4

Taste is peach, mango, passionfruit, orange, grapefruit, and a little alcohol is detected, but does not over take the fairly balanced flavor. 4

Mouthfeel is big, not dry but a tad sticky, fairly soft gentle carbonation, and at 9.8% it goes down rather easy. 4

Overall this is the first beer I have had from this rather young brewery and I am rather impressed with this one. 4

NBW #2. Maybe I wasn't confident that the Twin Lights Stout would be good because I also took a bottle of Guinness BBA Imperial Stout from the fridge to warm. So, after drain pouring the remaining cans of the Years of Solitude, and cleansing my palate with some sharp Vermont cheddar, I'm back at it. And this is quite an improvement!

It pours a dark cola color with a full finger of frothy, light khaki head and thick, creamy lacing. The nose is fragrant and features lots of roasted malt, chocolate, toffee, coconut, and oak. This is rich and good! The chocolate and toffee are front and center with lesser notes of vanilla and coconut. The bourbon emerges at mid-palate; it's noticeable but delicate. It has a mouth feel appropriate for an Imperial Stout: thick and creamy with moderate carbonation, and you can feel the 10.3% ABV. The 12 oz. bottle format is appropriate. I rarely give a beer the same rating across the board but I think it's appropriate. This is a solid 4.25 offering. I'm not sure why the overall rating is sub 4; this is really enjoyable.

I've seen many postings of this Stout on WBAYDN but I hadn't seen 4-packs in my area until yesterday. It's overpriced IMHO but I enjoyed it and am glad I purchased a pack. And since my mother was a Farley it's time I start drinking some Guinness before St. Patricks Day. Cheers, NBW!

Wife just had an outdoor board meeting for her charity and this beer was left over.
Wash Your Hands from Stony Creek Brewing. Not a big fan of the style or the brewery, but what the heck, 4% and free. Stick on label and almost anachronistic name suggests this is going to be a short lived offering. I would file this as a good lawn mower or fishing beer.

    look: 3 | smell: 2.75 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.25

Poured from a 12oz undated can to a Nonic at fridge temp.
A very light gold, not quite clear body sits below an anemic white head. Tiny bubbles rise hypnotically through the session. Minor lacing does occur with a swirl, but it doesn't last 1/4 of the time you should spend washing your hands.
Aroma is onion with mild grass and malt notes. Not super inviting.
Taste is surprisingly clean. This is very slam-able.
Mouth feel is light with a carbonation that puts other light lagers to shame.
Beats a BMC for sure. At 4% this is a pretty good lawn mower or fishing beer.

Dark copper body; clear except for a ton of flocculation (yeast, I'm sure); decent head, dense and lasting. Pleasing smell of lightly roasted grain. Warm and rich malt flavor; toffee and caramel; dull roasted grain sweetness. Heavy body; rich and warm on the palate; semi-dry.

Well, the particulates were a bit of a surprise, but settled down as the beer sat between sips. A side-show distraction, really. No, this beer is a fine, roasty, malt-forward marvel overall. I'd gladly drink this beer again.
    -------
This was another gifted beer (probably from my neighbor Tactical Bob). And this is why I enjoy good neighbors and BA beer traders - you never know what they might bring your way.

In this case, I highly doubt I would ever grab this beer as a single or as a six-pack. It's just off my radar. Yet there is no denying the joy of a pleasant surprise.

Yep, good people drink good beer...and pass it along to other good people...

My second big-bottle Transient stout this weekend is Junie, an imperial rye stout with cacao nibs and salted caramel.

Now this is what I'm talking about! Big, thick, creamy, chewy body; a bit of alcohol sting, but it doesn't prevent you from really savoring each sip.

The caramel is strong enough for you to notice the addition, but not so strong that it overpowers the malt base. The cacao is entirely complementary, and isn't any stronger than the espresso tones from the malts.

That malt base, along with a nice hoppy bite that I didn't at first notice, reminds me of Narwhal, Ten Fidy, and Founders Imperial Stout - but with caramel and cacao added. For a non-BA (but flavored) stout, this one really delivers (and I'm sure would be sublime aged in the sweet bourbon barrels Transient tends to favor).

Alright, here we go! My day is improving as we head into the evening. Making some progress on math work I have to catch up on and sipping on one of the three new Tripping Animals hoppy beers I picked up a couple days ago. This one is a pretty big DIPA with a cool hop bill. I've enjoyed the stuff they've been doing since I first discovered them via a good buddy who showed me their collab with Widowmaker, where he works. This one features Simcoe, Citra/Citra Cryo, and Idaho 7/Idaho 7 Cryo. I've had a few beers like this that feature hops and their LupulN2 counterparts and I've felt kinda mixed about them to be honest. I'm hoping TA does a good job with the concept. Full disclosure, this just showed up in my area but was canned about 5 weeks ago on 2/3/21. I am going to try to not give a crap about that, but we'll see if my cynicism prevails.

"On The Loose" is an 8.7% IPA brewed in collaboration with Mast Landing, Maine heroes of the hazy IPA, and it seems like the pour is in order, at the very least. It's a slightly-deeper-than-expected orange color with a tight eggshell-white head that recedes down to a half-finger rim after a few minutes, leaving behind some spotty but nice lace. Legs are pretty decent but nothing special, but I will say that I like the rather-unusual hue of this beer. It's good to see a bigger IPA with some saturation and depth to it nowadays, in my opinion.

The nose jumps out of the glass with a big hit of tannins, apricot, grapefruit, and ripe guava flesh; impressive stuff here. There's some dank stickiness in here as well, and a bit of pineapple (in heavy syrup) picking up as it warms a little and opens up. There's a lot happening here, but in contrast to a lot of I7 beers, it's coherent and sensical. I actually thought this was going to be a lot more "out there" but I will say that I think Simcoe is doing a lot of "mediating" work between these two other hops and their Cryo versions. I really like the aggressive citrusy/aspirin-y intensity that is getting thrown out. Instead of being nebulous and weird, it feels logical. I'm into it. Hope it continues to impress on the tongue.

This is juicy, what the hell? I did not expect that from the nose! Big, super-soft flavors of orange and tangerine with a marmalade-like aspect in the mid-palate. Guava, passion fruit, ripe mango, and orange sherbet as the transition to the finish brings out some light dank notes and leafiness. Drinking this is a refreshing and satisfying ordeal, and I feel totally vindicated for giving it a shot. Mast Landing's track record with collaborations has been a bit spotty lately (and honestly, some of their output has felt a bit rushed or over-extended, but maybe I'm just trying to find meaning where there isn't any), but this one is highly-recommended. I'm excited to try the other two TA beers I got (a triple-dry-hopped Mosaic pale ale and a DIPA with Citra/Cashmere/Mosaic/Motueka/Nelson) now... they seem to be pretty dang good.

Leftover gumbo for dinner. @tasterschoice62 - I'll go on record as saying that's the hottest chilie I've had I think. I should have probably used half the amount I used - my eyes were tearing from that. One thing I noticed though is that in addition to the heat, they have a real peppery flavor similar to black pepper. But the heat fades fairly quickly ...

    Afternoon, all.

It's a mildly blustery 48° in the Republik of Spokanistan. Mostly cloudy, and a couple hours ago a soft rain was falling as I took a bag of trash to the can outside. Yesterday was slightly warmer, but Friday was absolutely gorgeous, with temperatures in the high 60s.

Had an IPA at local nanobrewey Four Eyed Guys that was a serviceable WCIPA and was new to me, but I wasn't in a reviewing frame of mind, so it's a New Beer Sunday for me.

Today, I hit a coffee porter sufficiently new that I had to add it to BA: Bear Mug, from Reuben's Brews.
Essentially, this is Reuben's Robust Porter with added coffee. It's a nice coffee porter that does what it's supposed to do but is nothing groundbreaking, either. I would hit it again were I to encounter it on-tap and wanting that sort of beer at that moment, but I wouldn't be particularly moved to go seek it out again, either.

Might be back with another. If not, have a great week!
