Time for those of us on the left coast to start posting to finish up this NBW. With NBS BIF #13 signups about to close, seemed like a good time to drink yet another beer from the last round of festivities. This beer was from a ninja strike from up north courtesy of @BBThunderbolt during the NBS BIF #12, which also included a teddy bear that I had to hide from my dogs.

Passion Fruit Guava Millie - Wander Brewing - 4.4%abv

A - Poured into a SARA tulip glass. Perfectly clear pale golden, but I poured carefully after noticing some sediment on the bottom of the bottle. Small amount of thin white head that dissipates to a thin ring leaving no lacing behind.

S - Mostly guava, but there's some passionfruit sneaking around the edges.

T - Bright guava up front, passionfruit comes in on the finish. Some sweetness there to balance out the acidity. Tart enough to be refreshing, but not overly acidic.

M - Light body with a dry finish.

O - Simple and refreshing. Doesn't overwhelm with heavy fruit flavors, and the acidity is mild. Easy drinking, and a good start to an evening that I expect will include some much stronger beers.

    Thanks again, Terry!

Well, late in the day, but still, Good NBS (in memoriam) everyone!

Given the late hour here in the Upper Midwest, I have chosen what I expect to be an evening sipping beer, and catching up a bit on my BCBS purchases this year.

Goose Island Bourbon County Caramella Ale, 2020 - Wheatwine
    ABV: 14.6%
    IBU: NA (60?)

Aroma is rich... spicy - cinnamon, fruit - apple.

Dark amber color, clear, with ample rising bubbles. Short tan head that recedes quickly to a thin ring. No lacing. (Occasional disconnected bubbles cling to the glass as you drink, but quickly slip down into the beer.)

The apple is forward in the taste, with the cinnamon and sweet caramel backing. The overall taste is sweet, little bittering to balance it. The middle develops in complexity, with the apple fading a bit and the sweet caramel and cinnamon becoming more prominent. The finish does become very slightly bitter, but the overall finish is sweet and sticky. The aftertaste is pleasant and leaves a coating on the tongue and the back of the mouth.

The mouth feel is thick and viscous, like a classic BCBS.

Overall, a richly flavored sweet beer. Even so, it is not cloying if you accept it for what it is - basically, a dessert beer or (as I hoped) an excellent evening sipping beer.

[IMG] Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass canned on 1/25/2021. Pours a dark brown with a finger plus sticky light brown head that leaves thin streaks of lace with nice retention. 4

Aroma cinnamon, vanilla, cannoli, faint cocoa, and some whiskey from the barrel definitely is present. 3.5

Taste follows cinnamon hits first and hard, cannoli, vanilla, cocoa, and the rye whiskey is rather dominant in the finish and kind of in a odd way. 3.5

Mouthfeel is almost medium, enough life for the style, not dry, and at 9% it drinks bigger alcohol wise, but goes down rather easy because of how thin it is. 3.5

Overall very glad it was just a single, would not be sad if I never had this odd duck again, but still sipping and happy to try it. Was hoping Clown Shoes rubbed off on this one and nope a swing and miss for me. 3.5

This beer has been around since at least 2011. Even so, the name is a good description of 2020. :beers:

Well, it doesn't have to be a fancy dog toy. @Xul sent my golden retriever a Socal rock in return for the Norcal rock Presto dropped in the box of beer I was sending to him, and my pup was quite pleased. Apparently they have similar taste in rocks.

Does dogger prefer salt water rocks, river rocks, or mountain rocks? Perhaps some nice Chuckanut Sandstone?

Pale yellow body; lively carbonation; thin white head. Nice aroma; slightly sweet malt with a touch of earthy herbals. Basic American adjunct lager flavors; slight corn sweetness; very low hop bitterness presence. Light body; rather effervescent.

Pretty much a spot-on take of an American adjunct lager as produced by the big boys. Not bad yet very far from great. Now Cycle's 'Bathrobe Champagne' - there's a contrast for the better...
    --------
I love the not so subliminal name dropping in this beer's name. And I truly respect how they apparently nailed the general quality and taste of classic American adjunct lagers like Old Milwaukee, Miller, and Budweiser. And therein lies the problem for me. Why not just drink one of those beers instead of this one?

Don't get me wrong. The beer is drinkable and faintly enjoyable (just like its pseudo-namesakes). In fact, it received higher overall ratings from me than than my BA scores for OM, Miller, and Bud. Well, I've had a fair number of beers already today...

The fine print on the label made reference to 2020 and how it sucked. Brighter days ahead.

Hello New Beer Weekenders! Ive never posted on these threads before so here we go with a new thread for me with a new beer to me and to the BA DB.

Armada Brewing Black Is Beautiful Imperial Stout. Brewed with coconut and vanilla added. I picked these up yesterday while shopping for the Porter tasting event this weekend.
I ended up giving this a 4.11 score which is lower due to not finding any coconut in the nose or flavor profile. Still a solid roasty and chocolatey imperial stout.

Onto my review posted on the site:

Picked up this 4 pack of 16 oz cans yesterday. Pouring at cellar temp into my snifter. The beer has coconut and vanilla added according to the label.
the beer pours a black coffee color with no light passing through my can. A dense creamy khaki colored head foams up about 1.5 cm and remains as a sturdy surface layer throughout the sampling. Leaves some dense sticky lacing during each sip or swirl of the glass. Looks really good in the glass.
Aroma is rich with roasted malt and some dark bakers chocolate. I also get some light vanilla in the background, but no coconut. No hops or any hint of booze notes either.
First sip reveals a medium body with fine and tingly carbonation that really foams up in my mouth with a swirl. Texture is smooth and silky and the beer drinks pretty easy.
Flavor is what the nose tells me to expect. I get roasted malt, some black coffee, and dark chocolate. Like a dry dark cocoa powder flavor. This rolls to a little vanilla that shines through before giving back the show to a roasted flavor that lingers after each sip. Hops absent and not boozy at all.
This is an easy drinking roasty imperial stout, but I am not sure what happened to the coconut from the label, I dont smell or taste it. Still a pretty nice imperial stout.

Good evening everyone! Tonight I am drinking a top 100 beer on Beer Advocate thanks to @colby600! Just never had a chance to have this one, so I am really happy to

    Bissell Brothers - Swish

Pours a bright orange-yellow color. Completely opaque, somewhat thickish. Lovely three finger head forms on the beer, lingers, and then dissipates leaving a thin layer of residual foam on top of the beer. Aroma has notes of bright citrus, papaya, pineapple, with some light dank hoppy notes. Its really nice - balance of sweetness, fruit but with some bitterness.

Taste follows the nose with notes of citrus, orange rind, mango, papaya and peach - sweet but not overly so. A nice bitterness on the back end cuts that sweetness down and balances it out a bit. There are some light straw notes and a certain grassiness to the beer. Feel is medium bodied, moderate carbonation, somewhat drier finish.

Overall its a lovely NE style IPA and definitely worthy of the high ranking here. Its not often these days that a NE style IPA impresses me, but this one did.

It's not as big and bold as Mass Rising. It is a good beer - easy drinke. I'm a JA fan and I would say this is good but not their best. If you see a single, grab it for a trial run. If the intent is to put this in the hands of fans at the Gahden it will do well.

    Glad you enjoyed it, Jay!

The one I had upon initial release was a lot better. I drank my last one about 2 weeks ago and it had fallen off ever-so slightly. Still good am I'm glad you reviewed it.
