I'll take a stab - flag raising at Iwo Jima.

Told you it easy yes it was. He saw the flag rise then two days later woke up on a hospital ship after getting hit by one of those huge Spigot Mortars. They were so big and slow he said you could see them coming. He always said it smelled like rotten eggs, the deeper you dug in the hotter it got, had to lay on ponchos. No trees at all nothing but black sand and hills, the Japanese used everything else for bunkers.

    Beers coming your way.

Keeps things in perspective a bit, doesn't it. The last year hasn't been a picnic by recent (i.e. last 40 years) standards, but in the grand scheme of things, it could be worse.

Yea, never been out of NJ / Pa, to Hawaii, then over the side of a ship into a Higgins boat which he’s never seen before and hit the beach.

You cant unsee what he saw and experienced, he said it was a blood bath getting to the beach with dead Marines floating in the water, dead and wounded on the beach. We’re in the middle of Iwo now Feb- March 1945. He was a special guy, but he was like the rest they were all special to someone.

Well, if you've ever been to west Texas, they do circular highways, so it can be both!

The hallowed booty bumper. Well it started as, I believe, a funny bit of packing material from a local Catholic school in NBS BIF #3, @TongoRad --> @richj1970 . From that point on, it's been tagged and passed along with a few gaps. I need to pass it on...

Thanks for the mention! That thing is a classic by now, and it truly amuses me to no end how this group has embraced it. :+1:

I also figured I'd pop in to officially say that I can't participate this time around either. I've recently undergone major upheavals at work and am still adjusting to being given a whole department and consultants to manage. And get up at 5:15 every morning. :frowning2: Still, I feel a lot more fortunate than most, so no complaints.

    You guys have fun!
And keep my seat warm for hopefully next time.
