A package store near me reopened with a much much better selection of great beers. I went in there and they had4 packs of Old Rasputin and Founder's Breakfast Stout side by side...so I decided to have a little contest. I got the North Coast Old Rasputin first.....and I couldn't stop buying it....awesome awesome stuff. Finally I decided to finish it out so I bought the Founders. While the Founder's is and excellent beer IMO Old Rasputin is just head and shoulders above it. Just wanted to know some thoughts of some of you beer/stout junkies on here.

I gave a higher rating to Breakfast Stout but that is probably because I can buy it locally vs Old Rasputin.

Old Rasputin for me. I greatly enjoy Founders Breakfast Stout every now and again but I generally prefer Russian imperial stouts as a style.

Old Rasputin is the OG, but both are good. Honestly you can't go wrong.

I'll be the first to dissent and say, while I love Old Rasputin and we're technically discussing two pretty different styles (RIS vs Oatmeal Stout), I'm a sucker for a coffee in my stouts so I have to go with FBS if I can only pick one. They're both fantastic examples of their respective styles, however, and both are delicious.

Breakfast Stout is excellent on tap. But I love Raspy in the bottle. "Now available in the can."

Vote Old Raspy as love this RIS

Although I used to enjoy FBS a lot too. Would recommend both. Although realizing have not FBS last few years, I guess due to so much more competition these days.

Another vote for Rasputin...that is one of my desert island beers...

In a perfect world both would be available on a pick 6 mix shelf...3 or each or maybe get crazy and throw in some Narwhal or Expedition too!

Breakfast stout is one of my favorite beers....hard to beat.
Old Rasputin is excellent, but haven't had it in a while. Will have to get it soon.

Better? Maybe. Head and shoulders better? No way.

Two totally different beers. FBS is the winner though. It's not even a fair fight.

Really, it's about personal taste, I think. Both great beers, but FBS is one of my favorites.

I agree with these two replies. The two subject beers can only be compared by their overall enjoyability because they are so different in their makeup for a side-by-side. Old Rasputin is a special beer for a special occasion, but FIS is a special beer for daily drinking, thus I can drink it more often and prefer it as my choice.

Love both for different reasons. FBS in the parking lot before a day of snowboarding is my jam. Love Old Raspy, but not a fan of the 16oz can serving format.

I fully support this take as well.
