    Hi folks,

I recently joined BeerAdvocate while attempting to find out what ever became of an old pal from a different forum. He went by the name Solid Lifters, and I found him here under the same name...

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/members/solid_lifters.829304/

He vanished from our site in early 2016, and given his health problems, I had suspected that the news would not be good. After many hours of fruitless searches, I eventually found out his real identity, but also discovered the sad fact that Solid passed away in 2016, aged 46.

Solid was something of a legend for his posts on food, but he also enjoyed a great beer (especially porters and SoCal craft beers) and a cigar.

As such, I thought it would be nice to ask the experts on which beers they might recommend to pair with some good food (particularly typical American/Cali specialties) and/or some good beer/cigar combos that you have experienced yourself...

Added bonus points for beers that may also be available in the UK, though most great beers I experienced when living in California are not available in the UK.

So, if you have a spare moment this weekend/week/month, please let me know your recommendations for a beer/food or beer/cigar combo that Solid would have approved of. And, if you are so inclined, please join me (in spirit) in a wee toast to a fallen comrade who loved his beer.

    RIP Dennis aka @Solid_Lifters

Sad to hear this. I don't remember Lifter, but I just looked at his profile and saw his troubles.

The world of the internet is so *surreal,* if you will -- it's difficult to keep track of everyone's life outside the virtual world.

Here's to Dennis, may his memory be a blessing.

    Cheers Steve

For the record, Solid never posted anything like his BA profile on our site, which says alot about him... he seemed to (and clearly did) have enormous difficulties, but never dwelled on them publicly.

I wish I could source a Racer 5 IPA or Alesmith IPA right now.

I have some small Cohibas that could use a quality SoCal/SD beer right now...
