Rolled the dice on the SD. Any reviews on this batch? Also picked up the OH Forever. Haven’t had that one in years but I remember digging it in the past.

The current DDH SD is excellent. It delivers on the juiciness, & has a somewhat dry bitterness on the finish which rounds it out nicely.

I'm happy with it. It's among the fruitest batches but without as much of the dank Galaxy-ness.

Welcome! Your username reminds me of the obvious hop pun I missed for topology :/

Thank you! I’m a long-time enjoyer of quality beer & finally decided to pull the trigger on joining in on the conversation(s).

An hdhc beer released alongside the regular version would be interesting. Hd ace is good but ddh might be better, at least with this batch

Is it a general consensus now that HDHC=more melon? Or is that just my post Covid tastebuds?

Also I’m also happy with new batch of SD. But it’s still not as sharp as past peak batches for me. But I’m starting to get the feeling that’s just where OH has shifted overall. And I’m ok with that. But I miss it a little. Also once again... maybe this is a potential study in post Covid tastebuds. I’m willing to be the guinea pig in a double blind study if there’s any true scientists out there.

I've noticed that HDHC does have more melon notes

No, you're right. For better or worse these adjustments seem baked in. I blame everyone, including myself, that found the first batch of Green Power novel and tasty. I mean, it was, but it seems like a bit of a monkey's paw scenario when I hoped the second and third batches could capture more of the melon note. I know if someone dug thru the insane number of posts around that time that it wasn't just me of course, so I'll share the blame. Still usually the non HDHC base beers don't have high melon content. Though they aren't as bitter or dank, which are flavors being moved away from by, well, everyone I guess. So why would other half be different?

I have had 2 of the recent HDHC Citra Daydream and did not think there was a noticeable melon presence. Now that could be partly due to the recency of also having some All Galaxy Everything which was an over the top melon mess. I have a couple cans of the citra left and one of the galaxy, I'll see if I can weigh in any further in a couple days.

So I ended up visiting and getting a beer with @Feaor at Domino Park on Saturday. I grabbed a 4 pack of HDHC ACE and cracked on Sat night, it was very melon forward and a bit green IMO. Will prob sit on them for a bit, should have grabbed some SD too.

Domino Park is really nice, we sat outside but I went in to use the bathroom and grab cans. Post COVID I can definitely see this location getting really crowded and popular especially in the warmer weather. I wonder if they will use this as almost a "main taproom" for the foreseeable future while Gowanus is pushing out city wide deliveries.

I haven't had Mylar in a bit, it isn't as juicy as previous batches, but it has a nice Galaxy bite.

    Happy St. Paddy's Day folks!
