Why’s is it anytime a discussion of ipas to any degree pops up this beer is never mentioned? Never either a positive or negative that I’ve seen anyways, it’s just innocuous, like it doesn't exist. I’ve only had it once way way too many years ago to remember much and that of dubious age.

My guess is Zombie Dust steals some of the glory. I picked this up as well as ZD a couple weeks ago now that it gets distro in VA. I personally like Dreadnaught specifically because its mostly clear.

I had it 13 years ago via trade to rate. It was not so great. I only gave it a 4.8

Seriously though, I don't know why. Is there some bias against 3 Floyd's that I don't know of?

    I’ll be that guy:

3F Dreadnaught? Probably because it doesn’t get exported to the US and they’re not known for their IPAs.

FFF Dreadnaught? You’re welcome to sing it’s praises, but there are plenty of other IPAs people don’t mention all the time too. I’d guess all of them escape constant discussion for roughly the same reason, no one has enough passion about the beer to rant or rave publicly.

I’ve honestly been wanting to try their Permanent Funeral for some time, totally forgot about Dreadnaught.

Drie Fonteinen made the jump to ipa a long time ago. Didn't you hear?

I think the Star has fallen a bit, 10 years ago ZD was the shit, it’s been awhile, but I’d be interested to have one super fresh to compare.

I just posted that beer several times last week after the 3F drop. That and Arctic Panzer Wolf were my 2 tops. Ive seen plenty of that beer posted lately but not too much in the past. Fits the the bill for a perfect Midwest style IPA IMHO.

I was pleasantly surprised to see it back here in SE PA and Md during the last couple weeks. Last time I had it was when I bought a case of bombers just before they pulled themselves out of most national distribution around 10 to 15 years ago... it has been in my fridge (minus 1 day) continuously the last 2 weeks. I'm glad with the pounders instead of bombers. 15 years ago, Dreadnaught was quite the catch, but the last five years has seen dramatic changes in what people expect/buy regarding IPAs... but I still like it... just doesn't have that hype magic of the latest rage... drinking one now... make that two...

    Dreadnaught is badass.
In my first life 10 years ago on ba I remember it was in the top 100 beers.
Sometime in the last year JohnnyHops sent me a fresh one. Still kicks ass.

I have this theory though... you’ve got west coast ipa with a lot of fanfare. New England ipa with even more fanfare.
Midwest or “Great Lakes ipa” as I’ve named it had a distinct style. These beers used to be on the top 250 etc, but along with time and hype don’t get as much attention. (I’m talking Bells, 3 Floyd’s, Pipeworks, New Oberpfalz, etc.)
PS- Permanent Funeral was also great.

Its probably the best imperial ipa I've ever had and currently have some in the fridge. I dont like hazy shit though so YMMV.

Dreadnaught > Permanent Funeral. Can't understand why Founders Double Trouble never got much love 10 years ago.

Ten years ago, I think it got lots of love... I loved the time my son and I were doing side by side comparisons of Double Trouble and Hopslam and ended up quite confused... would have been even more memorable if Dreadnaught was available to us ...

Best individual beer I ever tasted, for whatever reason, was Double Trouble on tap at Three Floyds many many years ago.

It released about 4 weeks ago in 12 oz 4-packs. I picked up a 4-pack 2 weeks ago, and it was terrific - lots of citrus with a robust malt base, but that's a style of DIPA I'm partial to.

I'd guess the fact that it's not a hazy impacts its FOMO quotient (or lack thereof).

Am I missing something here? 4.8 = not so great?
