Anyone been burned trying to help a new trader complete their first trade? I've had to gently prod a couple of new traders lately to follow thru and communicate. Might be done helping the new guys for awhile.

Noobs ship first, then there is no way of getting burned. As a noob I always ship first.

Sorry to hear that. I had a couple of trades with noobs over the summer and they were all great. I've actually traded with some of them a few more times since. In some aspects, they were better than seasoned traders I've traded with.

I have done it once or twice, but never been burned. I get really irritated with people giving noobs a hard time, but this is a good reason of why it happens I guess. I recently had to start a new account, and therefore lost all of my references, and now Im a noob all over again haha. Definantly not cool if they do not follow through. I would say keep being the bigger person and help out the noobs. If nothing else you can stray them away from fucking up the forums

I agree, I get irritated with all the bitching about noobs as well. I know its justified in some cases, such as this, but I think we should be more helpful and not have such an arrogant attitude just because we've been here longer. We were all noobs at some point and many of us were helped along the way by the vets.

To the OP, again, I'm not directing this at you. Your complaints seem justified. Trust me, there's some great noobs out there.

Noobs ship first, period. I'll bend over backwards to help them, but they gotta ship first.

I'm going through the same thing right now.
I've heard "I'm shipping out tomorrow" three times now, and yet to have anything be shipped. Which is why they ship first. One completely disappeared, then reappeared, now apparently disappeared again. I dont get it.

I have never been ripped-off by a newer trader... once, by an old baller.

That said, follow the above standard advice and you are fine.

Also when you hook up a new trader right the first time, you are showing them the ropes of how things should be done.

Until we can get the "Golden Rule" wired into peoples brains, lead by example.

Im a complete noob trader, but I'm trying to give it a go. There's a lot of good beers out here in my area (I'm 40 minutes away from Russian River) I'm just trying to figure out what beers I should trade for. I definitely want to try some Cantillon, but what will it take to get just their basic Gueuze? I also would like to try Heady Topper. Any tips?

I only have a handful of trades under my belt but did ask a veteran BA to ship first, at one point, to learn his method of safely shipping the goods. He obliged and packaged the beer much better than I ever would have (and I did read the blog entry on the matter). I re-used his material and method and shipped back before going to buy my own shipping material. It was a great learning experience thanks to a trusting BA.

Anyone that abuses that same trust should be violated with a cattle prod.

Scan the FT:ISO threads containing the beer you're looking for and take notes of what people are generally asking for. Figure out the ballpark and put up your own ISO offering what you have available to you. There are always people looking for some fresh Pliny or RR sours so you have that on your side.

I'm a noob, shipped first on my first trade and plan on shipping first for the foreseeable future. I figure it's assumed noobs ship first.i made it real clear when I'm shipping and I went to UPS first thing in the morning and shipped. I have no problem at all shipping first OP if you wanna make some trades anytime for some California beers you can't grab

I'd be down to send some abrasive and other MN stuff for some Pliny and other RR sours.

I totally agree, the BA that I did my first trade with shipped first and it helped a lot for me to see how it was done. Shortly after I won my first LIF and I was blown away that these guys would just ship me beer having never met me and I had absolutely no reputation on this site.

While I don't really recommend that people do that often, it was that sort of trust and feeling of belonging to the community that got me so excited about becoming more a more active member and wanting to give back.
