NBS BIF #13: Peninsular Envy 2 (The Rocket-Ball Inception)

In the past I used to smoke about anywhere from 3 to 6 good cigars per year, usually in the company of my dad, my brother and his father-in-law, who carries a humidor with him everywhere he goes(!), but I haven't had one in over a year now. I just haven't been in the mood for it, in part because I figure with Covid-19 (and the fact that I'm frequently exposed to people who do not mask at my job), it just wasn't a great idea. Also, these days, a cigar and some whiskey around a campfire, which is my favorite way to smoke cigars, seems to come with a nasty bout of acid reflux in the middle of the night for me!

In case I didn't make it clear before, I like Barleywine! Just keep forgetting about the style. The online tasting weekend helped me remember how good they could be though!

 

Back in my college years, I worked my way through by working at a Pipe and tobacco shop in Colorado Springs, CO - Sherlock Pipes and Tobacco. I was able to smoke some of the finest available then, cigars, pipes, and tobacco. We also sold bulk coffee and tea, before Starbucks made coffee cool. Real Kona coffee, Macanudo Price Phillips Cafe cigar, and homework.
Man, I miss those days sometimes!

That last hint was mighty enticing until I looked over the complete list of participants again. Still...

 

Hint #8: I have seen a total of six major concerts at two large venues in your state. Three of them were in a historic NFL stadium. The other three were within eyeshot on an "island," but really it's a peninsula. If you realize you're from this state you might be thinking that I am your sender, but I am not.

 

I think I have it narrowed down to a slim 7 of you. There are also two others I'm keeping an eye on, but I think I'm out on them. Soon enough it will all become crystal clear, I'm convinced.

 

Always thought of myself as more of a Don Maynard, willing to run deep routes to get fresh craft beer...

 

Hint #1: I’ve shipped beer to a LOT of states, but I’ve never shipped to my target’s state.

Hint #2: I am shipping in the same time zone in which I reside.

Hint #3: My target has an impressive beer nerd resume, and has done one thing on this esteemed beer nerd website that I've never done.

Hint #4: My target's state has an equal or lesser number of syllables than my state.

Hint #5: There has been an incorrect assumption made about one of the previous hints.

Hint #6: My target has participated in this thread roughly 1/3 as much as I have.

Hint #7: I am shipping a lotta East, then a smidge of North.

Hint #8: My target lives in a state with a HUUUUUUUUUGE peninsular - as a matter of fact, I believe that peninsular, as illustrated in a post made in the previous BIF, inspired this BIF.

Hint #9: I believe this is my target's first NBS/NBW BIF, and said target is at least one of two participants in this BIF that live in the state with a HUUUUUUUUUGE peninsular.

 

Ok, Ill bite ...especially on peninsulas and another clue..@Ovaltine, am I your target?

Dr P introduced me to Paul Vaughn of Bearded Iris. I visited Nashville this weekend and I walked in to see the good doctor with beers from the aforementioned BI. As the Novocaine, did its work, we discussed several beer topics:

~ What a great person Paul Vaughn is and his culinary tastes and skills. His ability to craft Saisons learned at Hill Farmstead and how he pivoted to IPAs for the Nashville audience
~favorite breweries - Saurez, Fox farm, TreeHouse, Hill Farmstead, Alchemist, BeerStadt, Bearded Iris, Schilling, VitaminSea, proclamation, et. Al.
~travel abroad to Luxembourg, Lithuania and Cologne
~the importance of water in beer and softness of the local water
~The salty savoriness of Saurez beers -not like a Gose
~tasting profiles
~beer recipes
~the network/fraternity of brewers
And much, much more....in leaving he gave me two beers from Vitaminsea and a growler of his recent home brew - Dandy from The Prindiville Brewery



Dandy is an American Ale - 5.1 abv, brewed with Mosaic, Citra and Nelson hops
Growler poured into a teku
Thick , dense, rich, creamy off white foam cap with excellent retention, settled to a dense pencil thick layer after 20 minutes, sticky lacings over a deep orange liquid =4.75
Aroma is citrus orange, candied orange, tangerine, white grape=4.25
Taste is malt , hint of citrus and white grape...with a slight saltiness
Low sudsing , smooth mouthfeel, crisp finish =4.25
Great beer that i was thrilled to taste

Need to spread this out a little more. Should not have been day drinking during my last clue. Eliminated way too many...

Hint 1 - I've never shipped to my target before
Hint 2 - My box is leaving my time zone
Hint 3 - I don't seem to do this that often in BIFs, but I'm shipping west.
Hint 4 - The avocado capital of the world sounds fun, but my box isn't heading to that state.

 

I have not heard of them, but I'll check them out. I'm always interested in new music.
