They used to say, too, that it wasn't really black but red, didn't they?
(After a quick Googlin' and cross out "used to"):

Ah, just make your own - just take a heaping spoonful of isinglass (it should be there, 'way in the back of your spice cabinet!) and add it to a glass of water, stir well.

My bad... re-reading my post, I should have said Ireland and the UK.

Lol, if it looks like a stout I’m not thinking clear, it looks black to me. Must be an optical illusion.

Re-read my previous -- pull out the flashlight, be amazed.

Works as well with Porter, Stout, Dunkel, and Schwarzbier.

Hey, c'mon, now I gotta know - I suspect it's some cultural reference outside of my personal chronology. The only "Molly's" I know are Ringwald, Pitcher (drive by her well all time) and a drug of some kind as well as Molybdenum anti-seize lubricant.

Ah, I was going in the wrong direction, time-wise. (I thought it might be on that Squeeze song about the mussels... that's after my time paying attention to most pop/"rawk"....)

Yeah, I knew that particular line in the Molly Mallone song, but not familiar with the entire lyrics. Besides that "D____ B__" song (I don't want to type out the entire name, because some folks might also suffer from getting earworms from annoying songs as easily as I do...) the only Irish songs I know the lyrics to are on that Van Morrison w/The Chieftains album.

There are 8 Stout styles listed on here, this one is my least favorite. Don't like it at all. Foreign/Export Stout is a little better, but not by much.

I'll add the video below from the 1970s since it's pretty neat. Just the post war history alone is probably convoluted as all hell I imagine (based on the information one can glean from A Bottle of Guinness Please about the different beers made).

One can compare the method above with that below from the 1950s where the beer is poured simply from one barrel (what do you all suppose happened to the overflow, part of it running over the hand of the barman, caught in that shiny metal box? what are the odds of it making it back into a glass of beer I wonder :grimacing:):

    Well, one way or another.
Hmmm... (first time I read that 'graph) "Ullage Beer? Gee, sounds interesting - what's that I wonder?"
    Seems harmless enough but wait:[IMG]

Well, yeah - but only 'cause Springsteen hadn't recorded for a few years there because of the lawsuits with his management.
Now, that song and the group is one of the mileposts along the road when I left most of mainstream "rock" music. I remember being at a party in the early '70s (in itself a not common event for me) and someone put that then-new album on. My reaction was the simply two letter antonym of the group's name and then I quoted the infamous first sentence of Greil Marcus' RS review of Dylan's Self-Portrait (an album that I love these days and even Marcus has changed his view of, IIRC).

Okay so they even had a name for it :grimacing:.

I wonder if any sad Irish songs were written back then about "snails in my beer".
