Is there any place near downtown Chicago currently serving cask ale? Ill be in town next month and have looked at the top rated BA places websites and see no mention of it anywhere.
Link’s Taproom used to have at least one cask beer on tap everyday but they closed down last year. Google came up with this list but I can’t verify https://www.beermenus.com/lists/places-with-cask-beer-in-chicago
You might check the Map Room. Its been a bit since I've been but they typically offered something on cask.
Pleasant House usually has a beer on Cask and has excellent English pub fare and pies to go with it ... but I’m not sure what the deal is these days with Covid. https://www.pleasanthousepub.com/
Thanks for the replies, guys. I've been to the Map room before on previous trips, but don't see anything on their website having it currently. I just checked Pleasant House as well, but no mention of a cask. Do they have a beer engine, or do they typically gravity serve a cask?
Beer engine - they have 2. But last time I was there was pre Covid so I’m not 100% on the current situation. Maybe give them a call?
I need to make it to Pleasant House someday. The first time I was in England (almost 20 years ago), it seemed like every pub had multiple best bitters in casks, and they were fantastic. The last two times (2014 and 2019), cask ales were a lot harder to find.
Not Chicago, but apparently Art History has a engine with a beer on cask: https://www.instagram.com/p/CM43ZeKBjae/ Their stuff that I've had so far has been top notch, so this is just another reason I can't wait to get out there.
Yea can confirm Art History has done some nice things on cask. As long as we are talking western burbs, Warren’s Ale House in Wheaton typically has something pouring on cask.
I stopped by on Saturday, had their best bitter on cask. Pretty nice. The first time I've had a cask beer since before the pandemic. But not a good choice for the OP, looking for a place near downtown. (I also enjoyed their Fastenbier.)
