Not only “running into” but at case quantities lmfao I guess I need to move to Washington.

Yeah, sure, if money is no object. Just keep in mind that Washington levies a special sales tax for spirits. Somewhere north of 30% last time I checked.

Anything in the neighborhood of 2k for a case and I’m game. Not sure if he was getting it at or near cost either though. Either way, I’m not lucky enough for that kind of find so it is what it is

I’ve lived in a bunch of places and met a bunch of people that I’ve drug into the craft-booze world with me. One of them owns a liquor store in a rural area and likes to put in for state lottery for me as long as I promise to buy whatever turns up since the minimum for them is a case (3 bottles). So for instance, I’m also burdened with a case of Lot B and THH this year. Hopefully we get into the PVWs one of these years.

I would gladly help in sharing that burden:grin:

It’s a fairly new arrangement, but I don’t drink high proof whisky like I do big stouts so I’m sure extra bottles will make an appearance on BA if/when I get to the point of having extras!

Uh, yeah, that's more in line with playing the game in as targeted and aggressive a manner as possible, not "running into" a damn thing.

Personally hoping to just “stumble across” some Lambic d’Aunis and Drogone this morning from Cantillon’s spring sale when I inevitably refresh the page like 50 times and coordinate an overseas delivery from a third party.

Hahaha, best of luck to you! I’d recommend spending some of your life hammered with your third party to increase your chances!

That wasn’t my intention, but from your point of view I guess it looks that way. I lived in rural America for many years and made friends. We were friends for a long time before she realized she could try to order any of the booze we talked about. She asked what was worth ordering and I gave a list.

It sounds very much like it was your intention. You clearly had all the information you needed to guide her through how to play this game, and you are choosing to spend an arm and a leg on other bourbon in order to acquire rarer bottles. Whether your friend has anything to do with it is beside the point, aside from giving you an advantage over others--it's a targeted and expensive strategy to acquire rare bourbon at volume most of us have less than a 1% chance at "winning."

This is peak bourbon hunting, a solid level up from every day tatering, and the polar opposite of "running into" ORVW.

Thanks for all the datapoints on this one - seeing some of the dodgy reviews of Aronia reminded me of the 2014 GCBB that had the, er, ‘earthy’ aroma at time of release. Will take this to the ISO:FTs with a list I guess!

I spend nothing at the store annually. $0. Unless I visit, then maybe a 30-rack and bottle of crown. It’s not an expensive strategy and it’s more like using a fish net fishing for any bottles, even Crown Peach when we couldn’t find it elsewhere. You say I have this “advantage” but it only exists because I’ve lived life and been friendly along the way, not because I’m trying to be an asshole. If you’re ever in WA come have a drink with me, nothing is ever off limits at home.

I think he means he doesn’t spend money in general at said store, only if and when something from his list pops up he needs to buy it since it was ordered for him. So technically he is spending money but not like us normal folks: having to spend $, enter raffles and so on to get a chance at allocated bottles.

I got dibs on being his next best friend btw.

So again, how, exactly, is that not spending money?

And, what's now more curious: what, exactly, is the purpose of lying about this basic fact?

It really doesn't sound like anyone is intentionally lying here. This is a pretty obvious miscommunication happening over the internet (he said "I don't spend any money there," he meant "I don't spend any money there besides these special order requests"... he said "I don't put tons of effort into seeking out these bourbons," and he probably meant "I don't put tons of effort into seeking out these bourbons like people typically might by scouring a local area consistently because of a pre-established relationship I'm lucky to have"). C'mon. Nobody is trying to pull one over on you, lol.

@Skeeter17 came for a simple question.

The simple answer is you can get a KBBS (or comparable value beer) with a nice plus now. Bourbon values have gone up since the last time you traded your ORVW.

What he's doing is actually worse, and I'm not sure how anyone familiar with the secondary bourbon racket can think otherwise. I'm happy to elaborate further, but I'll await his response.

Or, because you ran into these bottles so easily and have multiples, you could trade them to those of us that have no chance of getting said bourbon $4$ and be the coolest trader on BA!
