I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’m not the biggest black IPA fan, but I really dug that one, so I took a shot.

I really wanted to send you Juice Is Loose by Transient (it’s their best hazy by a LOT), but they only had 2-month-old cans when I stopped in a couple of weeks ago.

And ovaltine doesn’t send 2-month-old cans of hops if at all possible.

The only discernible standard is “ total destruction.” The amount of incredible beer moving around the country is INSANE.

What a magnificent group of beer nerds we have participating in this BIF. Just an incredibly generous group.

Hope you enjoy them. In my experience all of those bottles should age well. Not that they need to be aged, but what I'm getting at is that I don't think you need to rush to drink any of them out of freshness concerns.

Glad the glassware made it safely. I love those Hill Farmstead glasses (make me feel classy!) but they are delicate. Could you tell what happened with the one can that burst (and what was it....Cabana Pils)? Boxes looked in pretty good shape from your picture, and with them all individually bubble wrapped, I was surprised that one died en route.

Good morning, you magnificent beer nerds! I have just an insane amount of new beer in the fridge, some of which I'll get to this weekend, so look for me in the thread. Before that, however, I took down two new beers yesterday, and didn't have the time to review them here. So, here they are!

First up, yes, that is Jjjuliusss!, courtesy of @Rub_This_BBQ . This is a beer with an impossibly high reputation and score (4.67); it would have to be the perfect can, in the perfect setting, to even approach it - right?

    You know what? Maybe.

Seriously, this was unbelievably good. It has that near perfect mouthfeel that Tree House delivers better than damn near anyone else. Tons of bright and juicy hop tones: orange, mango, lemon, oregano, mint, and pineapple, along with a nice balancing bitterness. The color is a bit murky (now I'm quibbling).

A fantastic IPA that drinks well above its modest ABV.

Second was my closer for the evening: Rye Whiskey Barrel Aged Dragon Mask with Vanilla, courtesy of @Xul (as was the chocolate flight; dear lord, those were good, and paired superbly with the beer). 13.9% ABV, so this thing's suuuuuuper crushable.

Wow, just amazing! There's no mention of chocolate in this beer, but there's a ton of chocolate flavor (yes, I reviewed it before having any of the chocolate). The rye whiskey is potent and prominent, and along with the vanilla and the massive malt base, this thing is just incredible. Perhaps not quite as rich as the beer I reviewed the other week (for the life of me, I can't remember what it was), but still super rich. Tasting notes: chocolate, vanilla, and rye whiskey, along with molasses, red grape, light char, toast, caramel, pecan, tobacco, and espresso.

Thank you both kind gentlemen for these incredible beers!

Oh, I forgot to include tasting notes from the chocolate!

My partner's favorite was the Madagascar, which had an incredibly complex and fruity profile. Mine was the Dominican, which was super dark and rich (I found the Madagascar more complex but less satisfying to my love of dark chocolate; it was my #2, while the DR was, I believe, her #4).

I think I went DR, Madagascar, Brazil, Peru in order. All of them were delicious.

    Nice, and enjoy great beer.

Because I’m Italian might I suggest San Marzano tomatoes if your using the Hunts to make your own sauce. I’m a sauce snob.

Yea, I plan to drink the IPAs first, but I'm not sure how much aging will occur with the bottles ... that would require self control and patience.

the glasses were totally fine! the double boxing was perfect.

As for the can - it was the can of Glitter Rainbow from Kent Falls. I honestly don't know what happened. There was no visible cut or opening, so I tend to think the seem on the can lid must have failed? All I know is that the can was half empty and the contents were sprayed all over the inside of that bag you'd wrapped everything in. The outer box was only wet in one small spot - directly adjacent to where the can was sitting. IDK, not a big deal. But yea, kind of weird.

Above and beyond, not just beer thoughts and opinions, but now chocolate as well!

This group is far, far better than I expected when I first learned about BIFs- and when I find who it was that turned me on to these, I’m blowing up his or her porch.

Seriously, trading is what I thought I wanted to do but getting stuff you didn’t know existed and finding it amazing (or not) is so much more fun than bartering for the known. Not that it doesn’t have it’s place, there are times, but nothing on BA compares with this.

    You all rock.

Viewing these stellar boxes that are flying around the past few days has been a fantastic distraction for this apparition as we enter yet another period of Covid lockdowns here.

    Well done all.

Last night I did a bit of heavy Happy Hour-ing, so I'm finding it necessary to be spending most of the day at home. That doesn't mean nothing is happening where this BIF is concerned, however. Box #2 is now complete and ready for departure Monday, a "sealed-pit weapon". Incidentally, @Victory_Sabre1973, I included a list of beers on board, but subsequently had to remove one of them in order to close the box.
So there will be a Box #3.

Oh no doubt! This was an unplanned emergency. I'd never made my own sauce before, but when I get around to doing it on purpose, I'm doing it right, trust me. I'm just glad I had that Hunts, and some leftover onion. :grinning:
