That's rather depressing. It's all stouts all the time here. Hope my target likes stouts :stuck_out_tongue:

Springfield. Close enough to St. Louis to get my fix, but not much locally.

In W Michigan we get stout year round, Founders makes sure of that. And as so many up and coming breweries use them as seeing what works, they too often have a stout or two in place

You have not only far more breweries but longer established breweries too. Committing to a barrel program takes money and time, I’d assume most Brewers learn to brew what will sell, and that’s IPAs, and lighter bodied beers. When they more on and are promoted they brew what they know. And that’s not stouts. We have a ton of young breweries that have popped up, a few specialize like Haw River, or Red Oak, Fonta Flora, but young breweries competing with Covid to stay in the black, they brew what they can make a buck on.

Nice call out on Haw River! They do a great job - we go to Boone every year and I load up on whatever I can find from them at the local beer shop. Been wanting to visit the brewery but it’s on the other end of the earth from me.

It’s a hard find here too, there wasn’t any on the shelf in Greensboro on Saturday. The brewery is a hole in the wall, but it’s in the middle of nowhere and the beers really good and relatively inexpensive. Maybe 30 minutes from me, on all kind of crazy backroads.

When I was in NC back in 2018, Haw River was one of the places recommended to me to try beers from. The ones I had were damn good. I was SUPPOSED to go to NC March of last year, and I was looking forward to more of their goodies.

Well ,we all know what happened then. Still pissed I didn't get my NC vacation last year. Who knows when I'm headed back there. My Avatar pic is from my 2018 vacation.

I had no problems with the Pfizer, everyone I know who got the Moderne shot got flu like symptoms for 24 hours or so.

It’s not too far off the routes to the NC beaches, most bottle shops won’t carry them.

Yeah, out of the dozens of people I know who got Pfizer, only one had a fairly strong reaction after the 2nd. Even my 80 year old Pop (Pfizer recipient) was curious why I was useless for 2 days. I know more people that had moderate to stronger reactions with that Moderna. But hey, means it's working.

I felt a little light headed at the shot location, they kept me for 30 minutes instead of 15. Lower back stiffness was all I had. My wife got moderna, went to bed fine, woke up sick as a dog in the middle of the night. Everyone’s story was similar with Moderna.

While IPA is king, here, we get lots of styles in Washington as well. Plus, enough seasonal stouts are shelf turds around here that you'll be able to grab, say, a BA Fremont stout in July if you are willing to do some minor legwork.

Just a sore arm for a couple days from the Moderna for me. Same with my folks, although they have claimed their 2nd was worse in that way than the first. I don't get my 2nd until late April.

I dont know what makes me more jealous, the great boxes flying around or the fact that so many of you have had one or both of your vaccination shots.

The vaccine rollout here has been painfully slow, and fraught with delays. My mother who is 75 and has chronic Leukaemia just got her first dose on Friday. Her oncologist has told her that with her compromised immune system, her likelihood of surviving the infection would be at around 40%. Despite this, she only became eligible to sign up for her shot last week.

Moreover, and due in part to our government’s inability to persuade any manufacturing of a vaccine here, we have experienced delayed shipments that have caused the government to extend the waiting time for the second dose to twice the currently recommended time interval. Her second shot isn’t scheduled until July!

Right now, you have to be over 65 to schedule a shot in Toronto proper. In surrounding regions it is 55+. I’m unlikely to be able to get an appointment for the first dose until early May at the current pace of things.

All of this is happening - or not happening - as the three concerning variants from the UK, South Africa and Brazil are jumping in confirmed cases here and the ICUs are starting to fill up again.

So, we are in another extended lockdown.... It’s all very frustrating.

Apologies for the covid rant. I’m glad to see the vaccine is rolling out a lot faster down there. I’m looking forward to more vicarious living through the experience of these great boxes of beer in this thread! Cheers all!

First shot caused no problems, the second one though is the troublemaker, especially if work is a concern. You might plan on the day after as an off day.
